Besides the light housing or bulb mounting in housing, has any one retro fitted an HID in their headlight?
They make em for h3 bulbs which some people use for fog lights as headlights.
Or even any bulb that can fit our housings.
Or is there an issue with this?
also I know this isn't legal in our housings but if it gives us more light with out blinding others, it may be worth a shot.

What headlight or housing are you using?
You were able to use two h35 bulbs in your housing for low/high?

It is just a dual filament single bulb. The reflector and bulb are available online through Webike. There is a shot in my build thread showing it along with one in Davmos thread on his Helen bike build. (Yellow lense)

Hfm that's the exact headlight on ur bike?
Did it make that much of a difference?
Enough to say I'm happy with it?

Yes. The exact one.

I couldn't be happier.. It's very bright, a perfect fit and the blue lense and bulb give off a beautiful color beam at night. I bought 2 (blue and yellow) but I ended up going with blue and donating the yellow to Davmo for one of his sick build ups.

Is the headlight DOT and what color light does it put out?
We have a yearly state inspection here in texas.
They have been hammering people for hids, tinted etc.. for lights.
I wonder if they would complain about the blueish headlight n not pass it.
We pay the $14.50 inspection pass or fail.

I owned this bike when I lived in tx. You are fine. They don't check for DOT on the lense, they just make sure it's on. I lived in DFW and never had issues
with this.

The light is bluish when on.

Don't want to hijack- but has anyone found other bulb options for the 6v systems on the older Z's? I want to keep the wiring stock (and avoid a regulator) but would like to use an updated LED or HID and everything seems to be tailored to 12v. All I can find is 6v 15/15w flange type incandescent replacements like below. One of these same type of bulbs in bright white/blue would be cool...

Webbike sells a 25/25 bulb in 6v
I've searched & couldn't find too much in 6v so I'm going 12v.
12v is the way to go it seems to me.
You can run LEDs, hids etc... Everything & anything

Thanks HFM. I did check Webike and I always get off that site more confused than the previous visit. Take this bulb for example:

M & H MATSUSHIMA : Incandescent bulb [Head ball] [1P2004BW]

The first picture is promising, "...hey that might be what I'm looking for". Then the next picture is a yellow bulb oddly placed atop a giant bowl of white rice and some of the biggest chop sticks I've ever seen in my life. This is all closely followed by picture #3 of a fairly stock looking incandesecant bulb/lamp overshadowed by a gnarly ass handlebar basket which I can only hope is for sushi take out orders delivered with monkey speed and precision.

So, yeah…one day I'll figure Webike out. Thanks again, good luck DSR.

You don't wanna switch to 12 volt, DE?
What engine are you running?
Im going to upgrade my engine here soon and since all are 12v, why not convert?
If I don't convert when I swap the engine, I will still use the 6v setup until I do

For this K2 I'm working on I'm trying to keep as much of the originality to it, while still going for a one off look. To your point, 12v would make sense if I was running a bigger China motor, but I have the original motor for the frame, totally rebuilt to stock specs, and only running the headlight and taillight and coil/ignition, no extra electrical bells and whistles, so no need for 12v…yet. I've been thinking that an 88cc+ bore kit and bigger carb would be a nice winter 2014 project, so I'll consider 12v then. For now I just want to get this thing running so I have a drop zone cruiser by the spring..

Makes sense.
I like the 50cc but having minimal power kind of sucks on the street.
Are you going to buy that 6v bulb from webbike?
