Ok I just bought a in good shape but used 2008 pitster x4 with a 150 gpx motor, it still looks new the guy I bought I from didn't ride it much he said, but Anyways I brought it home And rode it around for awhile and I kept hearing a rattling noise in the motor like at the front of the motor, it's noticeable while riding when your giving it gas or when you pull in clutch it kinda quits but not all the way? Any ideas? I also kinda assumed he maybe put 87 octane in it and it was pinging or something so maybe running 91 would help if that was it? Also what would cause the bike to bog or sputter while gassing it in third gear? It does it the worst in third but will also in second gear some? Any suggestions? I just hope I made a good purchase for $1,000. The bike still looks new he said it was a left over 08 and he bought it new

On the right end of the crankshaft. If your motor does no thave a removable oil filter there then it will have a slinger. The slinger is a centrifugal oil filter that sometimes comes loose from the crank. You need to check it and don't run the motor anymore from the sounds of it.

Ok so do I have to open the motor up to see it or just pull oil filter out of it to see it? This is a new bike to me so I'm not use to it hopefully it would be a easy fix? I ran it last night for alittle while hopefually it didn't do damage, ill have to check this evening after work

Check the exhaust flange. Make sure that the flange bolts are tight and make sure you can,t wiggle the header. I had found during assembly sometimes the exhaust gasket is missing causing a rattling. Usually the bike will backfire during deceleration.

As far as the bogging check and clean the carb. Take a pic of the carb the factory carb is ok but for more hp people install a 26mm carb so that maybe a factor also

Ill check the exhaust flange tonight and the slinger, hopefually I don't rip the gasket

I just hope it isn't a major problem I was worried anyways buying a Chinese bike, but I've read good things about pitsters so I pulled the trigger and bought a used one, I do like the suspension on it, and the bikes pretty fast and touquey even with my 230 pound butt on it lol

You said there it DOES have an oil filter, so it does NOT have a slinger, cancel that idea then. Like ATC said, look at the exhaust flange, also could have really loose valve adjustments, open the rocker covers and check the valve clearances, should be .003" inlet and .004" exhaust.

The 08 GPX engines do NOT have oil filters (other than the little screen) and DO have slingers. Lean the bike over on its left side and pull the right side clutch cover off. Check your clutch nut, and the sliger nut. I strongly suggest you lock tight both of them and torque them down nice and tight.
