I wanted to start this thread to have a place for everyone to post pics of where the work on their mini's. Sorry if there is one of these already, but if there is, let's just make this one bigger! Also, let's keep it ON TOPIC. Post pics from start to current & continue to post more as you make improvements! All comments about SHOPS are welcome

I have a 16x10 shop I had built and I've been slowly putting trying to finish up. I started with that roll out vinyl floor with no adhesive and it sucked bigtime. Last night I bought 3 more 6000k shop lights and all new adhesive backed flooring that I'll start putting down today. Next up is insulation, walls, and mounting my 2 AC units. I'll post some pics of how it sits as of a few weeks ago and I'll continue to add them as I do work on it. My shop is nicknamed "Gas Money Minis" because I will work 4 gas monies. Some pics are from just after I got it.

Let's get the thread going!

Awesome man! Nice little setup you got there, ill post up my pops garage later on
I appreciate that man. I'm gonna continue working on it until it's exactly what I want. I have a lot of plans but money is the main issue as building materials are NOT cheap anymore. Lol. I'm going tonight to buy some wiring to get started on running the electricity. I plan on 4 outlets per 16' side and 2 on the back wall. I have 2 huge window units that I'm going to build into the walls. Mini fridge is sitting waiting to have a permanent spot to reside.

Does anyone know if it's okay to use 16" wide insulation and run it horizontal instead of the traditional vertical? The 24" wide stuff is like double the cost....
It'll work depending on how careful you are installing it. I assume you're talking about fiberglass or rockwool batts. Careful installation is paramount with these materials. Fiberglass should be fluffed up before it's put in the wall cavity and it's important it fit tight to the framing without being over compressed and bunched in. Any cutting you do needs to be done straight and square. Use a straight edge to compress the batt before cutting with a knife. Measure carefully and add about half an inch so it fits snug enough not to sag (ie. 24" stud spacing = 22 1/2" between studs. Cut batts to about 23"). Any gaps will seriously affect your results. Rockwool is best cut with a handsaw, again straight and square.

Good luck with it. I've been putting together a shop as well and understand both the effort and expense involved.

Cheers,

Awesome info there! The main issue with my shop is I want it comfortable enough to hangout in instead of only using it to work on the bikes which is why I'm doing full walls and etc. It's not in the sunlight most of the day, so I don't think I'll have a problem with it being too hot.

Adding on to my shop is one of the first things I want to do in the spring. Also need to get power to it. Got some good locks on those doors? I have the padlock that you can't get bolt cutters on for my door then cable lock everything else together on the inside

Insulating in the fashion you are thinking about will work to help hold the pieces of insulation in place before you cover get some fishing line or thin twine and zig zag it back and forth between framing attaching with a staple gun. This will make installing whatever type of wall covering easier with no insulation falling out of place or getting between framing and wall covering causing a bulge. If you plan on installing any windows for natural light make sure you get some blinds and keep them closed when you are not working in there as well as put a dowel or piece of material in the track as a security measure if they open. What are you going to do for venting ? I would also suggest a quality lock and cable or chain to run through the wheels of any bikes that you don't want some bastard roll away with when you are away. Great start have fun with the build.

Heres a pic of my space...

Haha! I will def wear long sleeves!

Also, that's a great idea with the fishing line. That would help a lot since I'm doing such a thin wall (1/4").

I'm not sure what to do for venting yet since I really don't want to leak a lot of my AC while I'm in there. I was thinking a fan on a switch so I can turn it on or off.

Your work space looks good! My problem at the moment is there are 8 bikes in the shop so I need to get some of these sold to get some room back.

Wow! You put us to shame!

On a better note, I went and got a breaker box, Romex, and all the outlets/switches I'm gonna need tonight so I can get working on permanent wiring. Last night I went and got 3 more shop lights and the flooring so I have some work to do!

Here is me and my Dads workshop, simple/dirty, but it gets the job done.(Not pictured are all the quads but the one on the ceiling)
Sorry about the low light, it was night time, and the lights weren't warmed up yet.
