So, I have this engine here that I just recently put together and it is smoking a lot. I have jetted it down and still the smoke remains. This is an 88 cc kit, brand new, e22 head

So, a general question for discussion.

What causes excessive engine smoke?

I know that worn valve seals and too much oil in the engine, and overly rich mixtures. Anything other than that?

I may go in and change out the valve seals, although, I am pretty sure I did that when I put this head on this bike.

Age of the rings doesnt matter a bit , brand new rings that dont seat up correctly will smoke like a mofo ...

Well, I know the rings are installed properly, spaced accordingly, and installed right-side-up. Seating the rings...well, this has only been run for all of about 10 minutes. Should I just leave it alone and beat on it a while to see if they seat properly?

I think so, a good run within reason would probably do the trick.

cant hurt, give it a try ... and like Stan said ,make sure you dont have synthetic oil in there for break in ...

Even with new rings and not yet seated, you might get a biu of smoke but not much. Jetting will make black or dark grey smoke. Oil makes white smoke.

With a new head and new rings, sounds to me like maybe a crack somewhere but my guess would be bad valve guides/seals. Bad guides/seals create much smoke!!

Just because it is new doesnt mean they are good.

Ive seen a freshly built 450 with unseated rings completly fill a race shop with smoke in about 30 secs ...

The compression drop between seated and non seated rings is less than 5%. Engines with a single ring or light, race ring package might be a little more but as a whole, the oil seapage with 2 or three rings is USUALLY pretty minimal. Key word is "usually". There is always the exception and I don't doubt what you are saying.
