Hey guys-

Been looking at picking up a z50 and thought I had one on the hook yesterday, well it fell through, but I've found a pair of CT70's for $800 and think I could probably get them for less.

I was eyeballing a CRF70 since I'm a big guy, but I like the looks of these old bikes.

What do you guys think as far as fun factor. I'm not racing or jumping, just out crushing around.

Z50 gets my vote :D

I'm 6'1 and 235#. I have a 2006 CRF50 and a 1986 Z50RD.

I like both bikes, but the seat on the Z50RD is WAY more comfy than the CRF - see the link in my signature for pics and details of my RD.

The later model CRF stuff is more common for mods/customization, but both http://www.TBParts.com and http://www.Fast50s.com are great sources for early and late parts.

If you decide on longer fork legs and springs, I'd recommend running the less agressive ones from Fast 50s. I have the heavier version from another vendor on my CRF, and the lighter Fast 50s on my RD are much more pliant, but not too much.

For fun factor I say Z50. Although, I've never ridden a CT70. You and I are about the same size, and I wheel the hell out of my z50's. I really don't like the looks of the CT70 unless they're modded up (see DavMo's pics).

250 pounds of awesome on a Z50!

Being bias I would say Hardtail Z50A, Un-bias I would say 80's Z50R with Inch longer forks, extended swing arm, longer rear shocks, bar risers and a nice 140cc in there.

For just out cruising I'd go CT70. For more backyard fun and racing around I'd build a z50 up. For more modern bikes, I'd go with the crf70 or wait for the new crf110 to come out. I wouldn't even consider a crf50 in stock form for your size. It's way to small and you'd have to dump too much money in it to make it useful, unless you find a fully built one locally for a great price.

I've owned every one of the bikes above and several of them (minus the crf110 since it's not out yet), and for simple cruising I'd go CT70. You'll fit better on it. I'm 6'-1" and about 195lbs. I actually got out of the crf50s since no matter what mods I put on it, it just was always to small for me. I still have a several Z50s though since I still love them, but it's more nostalgia for me and I really like building them. My '79 Z is my backyard basher.

Also have you looked into XR75s or XR100s? Both great bikes, but not as many available parts for modding.

I'd advise against a frame up build as the small parts $ kill the project. By a complete bike and mod it. Or if you would like to frame up work out a shopping list and see what your getting into... Buy a donner bike with the most you can afford. as said earlier the CT70 will fit you better but the Zs are more fun because of the Monkey bike everyone looks silly on one...

Uh... yeah. I figured a few hundy after I bought my donor bike that was mostly complete. $1500 or so later (not including the cost of the bike) I was done. Kinda.
I'm figuring out cheaper ways to do the other bikes, and I'm not getting as "fancy" on them. These will be more custom but not nearly as much shipping from countries that have crazy writing.

Well what would you guys value a semi-decent 71' CT70 w/ a new but for some reason unrunning (6 pin into 4 pin connection) 70cc engine??

Engine has E22 on the cylinder head, but I can't find anything else on it? Lifan?

All depends 4 - 600. You'll be adding a cdi to the mix so the wires will be done a little different. 3 of the wires will go directly to the 4 pin and 2 will go to cdi and 1 back to the 4 pin. A bit more complicated than that but easily done with a few directions.
You don't have one yet and you're hooked!

$400 for both. Your going to throw away alot of what you see there. Then have the starting point for you to throw more money at. Lol!
