Just aquired this motor with about 10 hours on it and pulled it down to find a hole in piston and the classic grooved cam journals. I think the piston is the result of a lean condition and can obviously be replaced. But what about the head? Its grooved, but the piston burning was probably a hidden blessing as I think I got it in time to polish them out, unless there is another option?

Just spoke with this gentleman and he has done several of these and says his tolerances are way tighter than what they ever were new. Im gonna give it a try and see what happens. I asked about a bronze bearing instead of aluminum and he suggested against it. He said due to the heat aluminum was the better material.

He said he prefers 6061 aluminum over bronze because of the tension of the chain pulling down on the cam, causing excessive heat, which would likely fatigue bronze?
Based on your obvious over the top machining skills, is this a viable repair?

did he happen to say what bronze he was using? i feel its a viable repair. to my knowledge its the only cheap somewhat easy repair for the torched journals. i looked into converting the journaled xr heads like the stocker and kitaco heads into bearinged cams like the takegawa stage 3 and +R head. i bailed on the idea when i couldnt come up w/ a simple, fast, and cheap way to convert.

For the time being, Im gonna resurect my TB 132 and add a web cam and I have a modded 150r exhaust from this Kitaco motor Im gonna try. Maybe too much diameter head pipe, but will try anyways.

First would need to know are you still running the kitaco crank or did you go back to stock? With the kitaco crank its a yes/no answer
Meaning drop in fitment no clearance issues that's a big no. With kitaco crank you need either a shorter comp height like kitaco piston, or change rod to a shorter rod, or running a stroker plate and longer timing chain. Then piston would need to be re flycut for se valve size and angle. So ot is possible but not without alot of work.

I have 2 complete motors. Was hoping to drop SE head onto stock crank/rod, 132 piston motor. If that works without machine work, my hope is to tone it down a bit and not continue to shatter kickstart gears.
