Adding to the list:
If wrist pin doesn't have a circlip holding it in, rods will snap and go through the case (DING!)
if snap rings mysteriously fall off of transmission shafts, they will find their way between meshed gears (DING!)

i didnt learn this first hand but i did watch my room mate do this.........when you pop your chain off in the woods and have no tools limp it back to the truck...........dont go balls to the wall have your chain pop off at top of 3rd and blow the bottom end out of your bike(btw it was a stock honda 50.....i have never seen one of these things break before but my room mate is the master of destruction lol)

Or when u change ur air filter on a big bike and put a rag in the airbox so dirt doesn't fall into it. Make sure u remove it when placing air filter back in airbox. Lol bike will start for 2 seconds and then shut off. Lol then u will go to shop close to track n buy a new spark plug because everything else u attempted didn't work. Head back to track and take gas tank off to change plug jut for it not to work. The. Finally find out it was the rag and now u only have half the day to ride lol. Was not a costly mistake but deff a stupid one lol

I was so pissed lol. Drive two hours to the track and waisted 3 hours on bike. Lol some guy finally came up to me and was like check airbox cus he did the same thing before. I was like oh shit! Lol. The rag was caught all up in carb lol but it pulled right out n I rode for a couple hours.

This one happened to my neighbor. His nephew is a certified moto mechanic, working on a bike that sat up for some time. Thing idles fine, but has no power.
Two top-end disassemblies/rebuilds, carb rebuild, jet changes, ignition/CDI changes, and still, only days of pain...right up to the moment his uncle stuck his pinky in the tail pipe and busted out the mud dauber nest. Vrrooom! Tail pipe plug is the lesson.

this may or may not be a dumb fix bbbbuuttttt the ethonal that they are putting in gas now is much like brake fluid in the way that it pulls moisture out of the air....i have had week old gas go bad due to moisture, if you get a random missfire drain the tank and carb and try fresh gas. i have started putting dry gas into each tank of fuel i run through.

not for air cooled minis but dont be talking/txting after a rebuild while putting coolant and oil back in the bike. I had put half a liter of engine oil in the radiator before I said, "hmm this is odd they really changed the color of this stuff". Silkolene at the time made all their bottles look just alike...thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

btw. I just opened the drain and ran the garden house to the fill inlet for a while to flush it out. cost was 1/2 liter oil and pride; was with 3 other mechanics at the time.

gas on? in my experience the carb has just enough gas in it to power 3/4 of the way up the face of a decent jump on your first lap. end result a painful case/crash from coming up short.
