Okay so the yx160 with the v2 head and s35 cam isn't enough to compete with klx195s. If I were to buy the 184 big bore kit and also replace the stock clutch basket with the Geeco bullet basket with crf250 cush rubbers, would this be a reliable engine build? I know its a china bike, but I just don't want to replace a blown motor. Any help is appreciated!

Im gonna venture to say that if you cant get it done with a 184 setup such as you speak of.... its prolly not gonna happen

I've been running a simular 184 (zonger, 57mm crank,64mm bore) for sometime now and Itls been great. I do however suggest the clutch basket/rubber upgrade. Dont wanna go throw what I did 3 times, every 3 rides.... Rubbers went, contaminating every bearing in my engine. If nothing else, drill the backet and replace chinese rubbers with those of a crf50/70. Keep a close eye one the clutch/crank nuts... locktight them and check em from time to time... you'll be good. Btw... the geico is f*ing sweeeeeet

Thanks man, I think im gonna go with the TB184 and the geeco basket and maaaaaybe a 6 plate clutch pack for that little extra.

I have 2 YX bottom ends one a 184V2 and the other a 192V2.. I havent had any basket problems and I run the stock basket. I also run the TB 6 plate replacement pack with Piranah HD springs and the 192 has TB HD springs.. The stock basket on a YX160 holds the 6 plate clutch all day.. I run Honda Pro4 oil and ive had mine for years.. I replace the 6 plate pack 1 time in the spring and use it all year.. So just to let ya know a stock YX basket holds the 6 plate clutch and not all tear up the rubbers. I know Special K has me and Terry talked a long time about it cause not many other guys have had there basket rubbers fail like that. I have seen baskets break and teeth sheer off the ring gear but for them to break down chemicaly you would have to think it had something to do with the type of oil. Special indeed has had some bad luck with the YX baskets but there are a LOT out there running 6 plate clutch in a stock YX basket with HD springs from whoever you want.. My 6 plate pack is from Trail Bikes.. I road race my 192V2 and the clutch dont slip a bit although I do use the TB HD spings in the 192 as there a little bit stronger than the Piranah springs...

Not sure what im going to do yet, im sure that the geeco would be well worth it reliability wise. I want to turn this china cheap engine into a hell of a machine. I want a "klx-killer." And that's what im building.

The Geeco is on pitsters website under the engine parts section for imports. It looks like a work of art, and the crf250 rubbers are huuuge! That's what I want man. Something for the BBR guys to start chasing.

Good luck with your Build , are you running a Takegawa s35 or the TB Version ?

The older GPX/YX 150 , 160 Baskets did have cushion drive rubber wear issues but its not as common on the newer YX and ZS motors , actually quite rare.

Im running the TB version of the s35 cam. I only want to get the Geeco basket because I want reliable protection for my transmition. Im so excited to get the 184 kit going. Ohhh and a question for you Mr. TBOLT! if I buy the 184 kit from you, the 64mm piston already has the proper valve reliefs for the v2 head correct?

Yes correct , the Valve relief will accommodate the V2 head

Doesn't speacial k have the zongshen engine with the "daytona" clutch. Me and my brother broke both our zongshen clutches. My friend have a yx 199cc and he uses stock basket and stock plates. Gues the yx basket and rubber is much better than the zongshen or daytona

how long do your chains and sprockets last? My motor isn't pushing the cubes like what you guys are talking about, and the aluminum rear sprocket is already showing signs of significant wear and there's probably only like 20 hours on it. I would go with steel, but I can't find one with more than 40 teeth.

Yea when I built my 184 and 192 I got new chains and new TwoBrothers rear sprockets.. The chains I got are the best I have ever had. I THINK there RK.. The code is MXZ something I will check when I get to my shop. Its the biggest link Heavy Duty 420 chain I have ever had. It hasnt given up a bit and my sprockets still look real good.. Here ya go http://www.google.com/products/cata...&cid=17474367795462943100&sa=X&ei=-4FfToOsAafF0AGGpbn7Ag&sqi=2&ved=0CCUQ8wIwAw# Its a RK GB 420MXZ with the bigger pins than any other 420 chain.. I havent had one even come close to wearing out..
Image
They also make a RK 420MXZ but its a standard chain.. You will know the correct one its gold in color.. GB in front of the 420 is the the one ya want.. Ive had DID and Renthal and this chain by far has been better for me.. The less a chain stretches the less wear you will have on your sprokets..

^^^ Bingo. I had 3 "Daytona 6 plate baskets" fail (rubbers). All at 3 rides lol. 2 using Redline oil, and the last using non-synthetic oil. I also have a friend with the exact same set up and his failed as well. I cant speak for the YX stuff because Ive never ran them. Never had an issue with a stock H.O. (155z)... but as soon as I went up to 184cc's I trashed rubbers left and right. If the OP has the cash to dump on the Geico, Id say go for it. You want insurance, thats your best bet. It will most likely be the last basket you'll buy... just my .02

Thanks. I'm running a Rental R1 chain. I think its stretching out too fast. I will def purchase this chain!

BTW, I have friends running YX and 155HO motors so I think all this information is great and I'll pass it on to them.
