You are not officially a 50 nut until you restore a Z50 :D Good idea going with the new CDI 50cc motor. I dont know if you got a wiring harness with that or not, but it should wire right up to a CRF/XR harness if you are in a pinch. I would keep an eye out on ebay, or make a post on here looking for a cheap used chinese exhaust system in good shape for a CRF style bike, and chop it down to fit the Z. The old battleship mufflers don't do it for me. FIX DENTS in the tank before you spray it. It will look terrible if you dont spend an hour to two with some body fill fixing the dings. I use duplicolor automotive paint on all of my projects. If you use sandable primer on the tank, hit it with some 400-600 grit, then do like 3 coats of color and 2-3 coats of clear it will look sick!!! The sno-hog tires are all the fad to put on the Z50R's. They are intended for a snowblower, but fit on the Z50 rims. If you plan on doing any kind of real riding with it, other than goofin' around in the driveway, i would get some plus one chromo legs for an xr/crf with good bushings and a set of HD springs. Then get some extended HD shocks to level out the ride. Have fun with it.

Thor ...thanks for the paint idea...my buddy is doing the tank, so i'll pass on the "3 coats of paint, then 3 of clear" idea...can you order duplicolor online?

This Z50 will be "little kid" ridden...beginner riders...my older 2 boys already have CRF50's...

Yes, the engine is from a 1969 to 1971 CT70 Trail 70, according to the Honda Motorcycle Identification Guide. You will have to look on the cylinder for a marking of 72cc to tell whether or not it is a 70cc engine. Otherwise, you will have to pull the head to measure the cylinder bore.

and yes, the exhaust pipe from your eBay auction should bolt right up in place. A little tip for you: Before slding the pipe flange up in place, tape the two half-round collars together with a small piece of masking tape, it makes the pipe installation MUCH easier.

wow, that swingarm looks great for being custom. Nice work! And about your honda motor...it looks like it has a newer 88 kit on it maybe? It has an aluminum cylinder on it. If it has the matching CT70 head, that motor would pull pretty decent assuming it is fairly fresh. Pull the head off it and snap some pictures. Measure the cylinder too, i'm curious to see what the bore is.

this motor has an 82cc kit from Trailbikes...basically still brand new, as we never could get it to run...

THOR...Where do u purchase that plasticote paint from??...auto parts store?

tank is bondo'd and primered....

you can get duplicolor at like...walmart, kmart, autozone, advance auto, etc. I use the automotive spray paint. It always has a picture of like a ford explorer or something on the can, and they have the easy spray blue fan-tip nozzle. A lot easier on the fingers. This is the stuff.... http://www.duplicolor.com/products/autospray.html . You could get some decent money for that honda motor too even though it doesn't run. I'm assuming the stator assembly is no good....needs points or a condenser or something.
