I am hopng to purchase the takegawa 88cc big bore kit within the coming weeks. What do you guys use and or recomend. Do you know of any problems with certain kits?

Darrel

All the bore kits are virtually the same. It's an 88cc cylinder with gaskets and a piston kit. Get the generic kit and save yourself some $$, rather than purchasing a brand name.

Quality Parts

Hey,

Takegawa and Kitaco both make Awsome parts and they are reliable

as long as they are properly installed

Thanks for your time Kevin a.k.a.OLDSCHOOL #38

Do any of the generic kits come with the cam and carb though?

Look for yourself. www.hondatrailbikes.com

1. Cheap

2. Reliable

3. Make great power

* I'm not affiliated with any parts company, just a hobbiest like everyone else.

dont waste ur money on that cheap crap...u'll wish u bought a kitaco or takegawa when urs is blown up...i would recommend a 75 big bore...an 88 will smoke ur clutch and end up costing you alot of money in the long run...my 75 is very VERY reliable..even more so than stock..so if i were u i wouldnt get an 88

I give up. Obviously you all are drinking the corporate koolaid!

Have you guys ever run any of TB's parts? He has the bore kits manufactured for his company to his specs by the same manufacturer who produces the parts for the big two Japanese companies. All made in Taiwan. Again, Takegawa and Kitaco parts aren't made in Japan!

If it's the same grade materials, same rings, same pistons without a fancy name stamped on the cylinder, how would the parts be crap?

Don't knock it until you try it. There is some cheap grade materials out on the market, but I think you have TB's parts confused with others in the marketplace.

Rather than beat this dead horse, I think we need an unbiased product review soon and all this nonsense will be settled.

gudang, I've never owned a stock Z50, except for the Z50M I restored and subsequently sold to a collector.

Keep the rubber side down fellas.

I have some"cheap parts" in my bike and it works just as good as the namebrand stuff and its been beat on bad and not even a whimper .

Why is everybody baggin on on the cheap parts I'm sure some of it is total crap (cr107 anyone?) but I have yet to see someone with proof that the cheap stuff lasts any less than kitaco or takegawa

i just received one of these cheapies on Monday. my mate is waiting on a takegawa one so we will install them together and let you know the results.

I was going to get a takegawa one but at this stage im glad i didnt because it looks exactly the same as all the others i've seen.

mind you, time will tell.

Well we'll see what happens.

Another question. What oil cooler do you reccomend using on a bike with 88c or more? there are 3 or 4 that i know of all from different price ranges. Also what do you guys think of the oil catch tank?

for an 88cc bike, go with the cheapest oil cooler kit you can find. You'll also need a 300% oil pump. You don't need a high $$ oil cooler with a ton of heat dissipation for an 88cc bike.

Oil catch tank- I run a CF posh unit with stainless steel braided lines, but they are expensive. For an XR50 with an 88cc kit, you can get away with running a vent tube rather than the whole oil catch tank setup.

With an 88cc kit, In my opinion, an oil catch tank isn't mandatory, but is another part that adds to the wow factor of the bike.

My 50 is built to run on the street at long intervals at high speeds. Some of these fancy parts really aren't needed, but are more to add to the Wow factor than to add functionality to the bike. My bike is also a show bike.

It all depends on how the bike is used, and how you plan on riding it.

88cc Big Bore, 20mm carb, race head, 300% oil pump. Maybe a vent tube for the head. Upgraded clutch pack Dirt applications.

Road applications. 88cc Big bore, 24mm carb (PE24) race head, oil cooler, oil catch tank, 300% oil pump, upgraded clutch.

Everyone will have their differing opinions on what is best to run, so my advice will be to talk to a number of experts, think about how you plan on riding the bike, and built it to your specifications.

Costs can get way out of hand if you aren't careful, so do extensive amounts of homework before you purchase anything. Each person has their own brand preference, so the more people you talk to, the better picture you will get on what's needed and what isn't.

To be completely honest, you can get away without running both the oil catch tank and oil cooler, but a 300% oilpump and an upgraded clutch pack (automatic tranny) is mandatory when moving up to 88cc's unless you like replacing clutch discs.

Good luck....

i also just got a new barrel and piston for my girlfriends kdx200 and it cost $130 less than a 75cc barrel and piston for a xr50. i know a 2-stroke and 4-stroke barrel are different but is this the same story in the states? Are mini parts over there as much or more as big bike parts?

Yes, thus the reason why I suggest alternatives that make the same power. However, most people don't listen, and want the high $$ brand name parts that are overpriced and over-rated.

Ok I have decieded to get the Takegawa 81cc kit

Pictured Below

I can get it for $395.00 and i won't need to buy $500 dollars worth the oil coolers and pumps. This pretty much comes with everything i need.

Cylinder, piston and ring set, Carb, Intake, Performance cam, Air filter, Throttle cable, Spark plug, and the gasket set. The only thing i will need is the new cdi box and possibly some clutch springs.
