smoke might mean too much fuel as well. if its running real rich it'll smoke

So what is the different symptons of running rich vs running lean? The spark plug was kinda black last time which I think means its running rich, but I figured it might just be because it would only run with the choke on so thats why it was getting excess fuel.

rich you will get alot more backfires. some times youl hear popping in the carb as well. lean. usually youll notice lack of power and i think it usually starts to miss on the top end. my bike tends to run rich more than lean :)

Mine is kinda doing everything lol. It sounds like the popping is coming from carb/air filter. Also it has a lack of power and if I can even ride it it boggs really bad. I switched the clip towards the top (I think second from top) and it made it worse.

if you let you bike idle and then check the plug colour it will more than likely be black

to do a proper plug test you should 1st warm your motor up then put a new or clean plug in, ride full throttle through all the gears and when you top out kill the motor stop and check the plug

with the newer fuels theres alot of cleaning chemicals in them and some people say you can do a good plug colour test now a days

hope this helps

Went and moved the clip to the second to top position, bike would no longer really idle. Went back and moved it to the last bottom position. Got it to idle again but sometimes it will die. I can ride it but it bogs really bad down low and up high. I can only kinda cruise in mid rpm's. Checked the timing and thought it looked like it was off by a tooth, so I adjusted it and got it spot on, but still road the same way it did before changing it.

Thanks again

still sounds rich to me or maybe even a fouled plug. did you try setting the fuel screw on the side yet. i'de turn it all the way in and back it out 2 turns and retest

Yeah been playing with the fuel screw for a while the two turns out seemed to be the best match. So thats where I have left it.

Also, anywhere I should look to buy new jets since I have the knock off mikuni carb, and what sizes I should get? Thanks again

I would check your valve clearances. Put the motor at TDC on the compression stroke. Pull off the two valve covers on the top and bottom of the cylinder head (usually a 17mm). Intake should be .003" and exhaust should be .005".

Have not been able to check the valves yet but after I rode it for a few minutes today I still get the very bad bogging and it is still smoking like its got some bad gaskets and is leaking some oil. Should I buy a new head gasket kit?

Also still any clue to where I can buy some jets that will work with this carb since I think its a knock off?

Thanks again everyone

For some reason I thought it was a knock off 22mm not sure how i got 22 since I tried looking it up a few times and don't think I found anything about 22mm's.
