i was pondering using the tak cover, nice clutch basket

but need an 18t gear which would be splined to fit the crank ,

the tak part is castled inside as you know,

also the the nice crank half is too long, i'm sure

i can have the crank split and rebuilt with a honda 50 crank half ,by tjr for a COST / Another option

terry,

do you machine your cranks down when you fit the daytona cover with external filter and remove the slinger on your FP motors ,and rethread for the clutch nut

what does the crank gear you use look like?

i believe this to be a similar situation to what you already do ;)

Not having the rest here, I can't tell what may work, but the crank appears an easy interchange with a Lifan 59mm or YX 60mm, with lesser offset pins or added stroke. It's hard to tell, but is the Nice primary drive gear just clamped in place by the sling torque? May allow hiding behind a Tak clutch cover? There's a couple floating around the FPM shop.

I'm going to count teeth on an Xtreme basket (looks to mount same as Nice).

I know they give up the springs, but a swap to a set of Honda CRF rubbers should cushion the blow. I have one apart already.

Just buying the whole Tak setup should "taller-up" the gearing, but add a lot of money to the build.

I'm avoiding the takegawa clutch cover altogether...I want a slinger to add flywheel effect on this motor. I don't doubt that a jialing 124 crank stroked to 63mm would fit in...that's assumed. What I want to keep is the Nice clutch basket. It uses dampening springs instead of pucks...like a big bike. I'm definitely willing to give up a little top speed to make this motor more reliable.

I can fix my issues with gearing...18/27 combo gets me where i want...I'm using a smaller tire on this bike, which affects my gearing quite a bit.

Takegawa now makes a 5 speed gearbox for the Nice as well for those with deep pockets.

If that's the S-touring it will not work with the biggest stroke TJR crank. This is why Godfried wants to solve his problem while keeping the four speed, keeping the original 10" wheels and using a custom 19T front sprocket instead. Should be the cheaper solution also.

For the lower stroked versions the five-speed will work.

After messing around with my gear ratios, I'm starting to worry that 18/29 may not be tall enough for my Nice engine combination. It will be a 142+r but will be 54 bore and 61.5 stroke and running the s12 camshaft...so I'm going to produce all torque and power before 10k. That said, I want to be running 9mph for every 1000 rpm or so. That way at 6k I can run 54mph and 63mph at 7k. I'm 5mph of this goal at 18/29 gearing.
hi your runing s12 cam your better with s25 s 30 your making hard work of it 17/30 or 18/30 will b fine paul

Hey all,

Does anyone on here know where to get a suitable 19 tooth front sprocket? I'm running 18-28 on my Monkey-R at present, but it still revs out. The engine is a honda nice based 175cc. I can't go smaller at the back with the original rear hub (which I want to keep), and I already had to take some material away to fit the 28. The 18t front sprocket I'm running now was plug and play, and it looks like I would only have to take very little material away to fit a 19t one. If I can find one, I've been looking for a while know, with no succes.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers,

Godfried

mmmmmmmm 19 tooth??? i think that the engine get it to hard if you gonna use a 19 tooth sprocket and btw i never see them??

I am running an tuned up engine from TJR a 176 cc with superhead+R an big valves what i use is a 18 tooth upfront and 33 on the back Butt i have 12 inch wheels with 110/50/12 on the rims and he revs not out?? and the CDI is from takagawa with no limits

Looking at the torque and HP curves between the different camshafts, the S12 makes more power and torque from off throttle all the way to about 9500 rpms over the s25 and S30 cams. If the majority of my riding will take place in the 6000-6500 rpm range and the bike will rarely, if ever, see 10000rpm, I will actually lose power with any other camshaft.

Even factoring the extra displacement?

i'm currently running 17 / 29 & 10" wheels

what wheels do you have on your Monkey R Godfried ,,, 12" ?

i put 18t on, and the bike became a slug in my opinion

with the 17t the front wheel will lift at 45-50mph with a touch of the throttle

with 18t either a slip of the clutch lever or rider weight transfer brings the wheel up at that speed :(

when riding in traffic, in town, with the 18t, selection of the gear is vital! trying to pull off in second with that higher sprocket ratio's can lead to some serious vibrations/harmonics

suppose its rider preference and depending on where you use it (road wise)

Sorry, late reply, been very busy at work lately...

I'm running a 110/80/10 tyre on the back (thus 10 inch wheel). Tried with a bigger tyre (120/90/10), but that lifted up the rear of the bike too much, and affected handling to much in a negative way. I don't want to go 12 inch or monkey hubs (they accept smaller rear sprockets), as I want to keep the Monkey-R standard(ish) looking.

I quite like the gearing a bit taller on these big nice engines. Plenty of torque anyway, and adds quite a bit to top speed (I do quite a bit of 90 kph roads). I know what you're saying on vibrations in the lowest revs at full throttle, never bothered me too much, just kick back a gear if it's too much...

Anyway, still waiting for news from Boxerbert on the 19" sprockets.

Hey Paul! Good to see you on here mate! See you this summer?

Cheers!

Anyone seen a 12T front? I'm running 13/26 now and my motor is pretty tired so I was thinking about going with a smaller front until the rebuild. I like the look of the 26T rear.

I run a 18 on my ZB that I had made by sprocket speacialists. They can make any size you want but I really don't think a 19 would fit unless you did some case mods around the sprocket. Let me see if I can get a pic of my 18, You can barely see any daylight between the chain and case.

SS won't make a 19, that's why I had to have the 19's made elsewhere, in a decent-sized batch.

Really? Hmm I wonder why? They have always made any sprocket I requested and some have been some weird sizes.
