Hi Guys,

I'm normally lurking in the Z50 section. I've recently built a motor that I'm putting a crf50 carb on. I notice that there is this vent protruding out the top of the body and leads into the fuel bowl....wide open, no valve. Is this normal?

P.S. this is in addition to the fuel bowl drain vent/tube.

Thanks

People always told me to just get a CRF carb for my old hondas (69, 75, and 76) but I was stubborn. Now that I tore one apart, there really isn't much to go wrong, and the float setup is ideal since I probably have wasted a year of my life tinkering with float levels on a 40 year old carb.

I got the bike running...1976 z50 with a 70cc piston and rings. It hums very nice but I'm seeing some faint white smoke. Since I was extra paranoid about offsetting my rings, I'm hoping its oil from the build burning off. If not, it probably is my valve guides. oh well....

For some reason, I always thought oil burning would be blue, and white was air/fuel mixture related. Correct me on this?

white smoke usually indicates moisture. coolant in a liquid cooled motor, or water in exhaust. Pull the pipe off and see if it still smokes. don't run it for any extended amount of time with no exhaust, but that will tell you if its something burning out of the pipe, or if its burning oil.

I have noticed the bikes with the older Z50 style exhaust puff white before and i'm assuming its the pipe.

I believe there are certain year models with a drain bolt or cap on the pipe, presumably to drain off the moisture buildup.

Wow....someone was thinking. I often thought about moisture in the stinger on my k1. My 75 muffler doesn't have that luxury either. I suspect it isn't moisture... Would it have evaporated by now? And wouldn't it continue to steam when the bike was off?
