can anyone on pm tell me the lobe size on the tb s-35 cam? is there a way to tell if the upgraded needle bearing cases were used? I bought a engine from a pm vender that was suposed to have these items but both case halves are well used. on the yx 160 that I installed the upgrade case on the two dont look the same. different shade of gray. I also need to know the difference from the s-20 cam and the s-35 cam. does anyone have the time to measure the cam with a caliper?

I was inspired by a thread started by wrench about installing a compretion release he bought at his local saw shop. so I gave it a try on my v2 head. it worked great I started the motor about 15 times before I tore it down. Iwil do long term testing after I get my parts to repair this motor from matt

the motor I was sent was used the only new part was the piston every other part was wore out

So you pulled it apart when you got it before riding it? I have noticed with the ones I have done its like 50/50 I had a first gen and I don't know what gen the other one was but the first gen has had a ton of hours on it and the racks look like they did from factory. Now second gen not so much i purchased a brand new updated case and racks and forks after a hand full of rides it went to chit. Both racks was within spec when pulled down for inspect and refresh the new rack looked like they had the amount of the first gen motors time and the first.gen racks look like new. Through my experiences with any of these China motors usually come out like that some of them are pretty good others chit. That's just my two cents

I did not split the cases or remove the side case. I pulled the head to install the decomp and pulled the 4 bolt clutch cover to inspect the clutch nut after the vender asked me to check that and the shift drum bolt. I have had problems with all of the neutral start motorsthat I have owned. they all seem to pop out of second into neutral. but none of the all up shift motors that I have seen have any tranny problems till this one.

Not taking sides here, just giving honest feedback:

-I have had nothing but exceptional service, technical help, and top-notch shipping/packaging from Terry at FPM. Cannot say the same for Pitster. I will not go into detials, just leave it at that.

-Your tranny looks just like my first YX tranny. Second time I took it to the track, hit the gas a little too soon up-shifting to second: it slipped out, bent the shift fork, and rounded the dogs. When I split the cases, I found the tranny had so much slop in everything, the gear dogs would barely even engage half-way. I concluded the transmission shimming was the core cause. That was with a bone-stock 150 engine.

In your case, my guess is that there was a little too much slop in the transmission and too much power was applied while upshifting. I would recommend ANYONE running these engines over 14hp have the transmission spacing checked/adjusted spot-on and even have the gears back-cut to help (at least 2nd gear). I am sure there are a lot of guys who will say they run their high HP engines with the gears as-is, but I can tell you that a good back-cut job on the gears will DRAMATICALLY increase the life of your transmission.

I would also recommend leaving out the center case gasket. Test-fit the entire tranny/shift drum/crank to be sure everything fits well without binding on the bearings, and use case sealer instead. Out of 3 engines I have done, every one had nearly a perfect fit with no slop after the center case gasket was removed. I use Right Stuff by Permatex for sealant.

I only rode in my backyard. not enugh room to open the motor up.I have been riding dirtbikes for 35 years and am proud to say I know how to shift. I am careful with my clutch and throttle when shifting. the vendor claims to have installed new tranny parts and to have properly shimmed the tranny. the tranny poped in and out on the first right hand turn. I posted photos of the well used cases. this motor was shipped allready broken thats my opinion.I have had good service from g2 moto and tbolt. this is my first and LAST deal with this vender. when the parts that I bought to fix this motor get here I will post photos of what matt has sent. as I said I had no intention of naming the vender that sold me a $900 used motor. that was his doing. he admited in his post the parts where used and only bench shifted.

No poo contained:

Refusal to send the motor back for repair, or even do better than couple Zapruder-esque public pictures (fresh chain rash is clear, though), demanding/extorting parts before even tear-down (see PM series in my prior post), plus the amount of wear on what left here as a NEW, snugly-shimmed transmission and a claim of immediate failure after having the motor over a month, bouncing around the run date in this thread (08-31-2010, 07:10 PM) tells me a second YX is involved, or some other deception.

Yep, trans shifted fine on the bench, like new parts should. The motor was not run here, because John was going riding with buddies that weekend, and HAD to have the motor. Still didn't run it for a month?

He has already stated he's OK with fraud, not knowing if the importer actually ended up eating the loss... "***** at *-**** warrantied a motor after I told him it fell on the floor how many venders are that cool" ... Direct, entire post quoted.

Not this one;) Dropped the pictured motor, too, from the look of the stator screw boss.

There are at least 5-6 posts scattered through the Planet (check post history) stating I was building the motor, and since the only other vendor/custom builder on here is "rescuing" him, it's clear:rolleyes:

PayPal invoice:

Subtotal: 550.00

Shipping: 50.00

Total: 600.00

Note: Total price is $950, less $350 credit for engine parts sent to FPM. Price is for: 63x57 engine, used V2 head and PP decomp, 6-disk clutch pack, YX/Daytona clutch cover. Engine will be test run, with video and photos provided prior to shipment, approved by purchaser in as-is state. No warranty included. Approximate 3-4 week delivery time. Thank you. Terry

Yep, I should have finished it up quicker, but the bucket of garbage he sent as "trade-in" had me a little peeved. I've used a basket rear gear and some head washers, out of the tote. Shipping the trash and the $600 back is what I should have done. Hindsight and Hoovers, suck. He did get every thing he paid for, and more, despite the dramatic exclamations to the contrary.

I'm not sure of his motives, but I offered to repair it, or send parts, and he decided to handle it in public instead. In a non-confrontational, passive-aggressive, victimized fashion... lol

I made the offer, a couple time. Moving on.

I too can GUARANTEE this is the last transaction between said customer and vendor;)

no poo slinging from me. in my own defence. I stated, I bought a lifan/ogm150 motor from tbolt and dropped it I called vince to order the parts to fix the motor and told him I had dropped it. he sent the parts for free very good vender. dont want the twisting of my post to confuse anyone. I would buy from vince any day.

See I knew you would feel better! But should be a picture of Police eating donut.

All's swell;)

Nah, I worked 3rd shift, almost exclusively:) More KFC cole-slaw and an iced tea, but I would catch a bagel with cream cheese and a slice of ham, if I had to double up and stay for 1st. Loved nights. Typically, the customer was WRONG:D lol

the newest info I got says the s35 cam that came in my used motor was really a s20 cam. I cant ride anywhere but my backyard till fire season is over. sometime in october I will see if I need the s35 cam or if the s20 that was sent will do the job.:disappointed:

Well, I dont know about you, but if this happened to me, I would have IMMEDIATELY taken close-up pics of everything when it arrived as "incorrect". After my experiences here on PM, I would never again let anything go for any length of time; I would inspect it thoroughly as soon as it arrived.

And you can find decent digital camera that takes good close-up at Walmart for under $100. Well worth the investment.

It does seem there is a lack of real evidence of wrongdoing here, and fishy that you did not let Terry handle the problem. Unless you have some real evidence that the engine arrived as "used", the only thing we can conclude is that you got it NEW, ran it, broke it, then want us to take your word that it arrived used. Or, like Terry said, some shady motor swapping going on. I am really not trying to point the finger here, just giving you my opinion on this subject based on what has been posted by both of you.

Clear, close up pics often reveal little details that go a long way for proof.
