Shifting problem (for the more experienced mechanics on the board)

I was testing the shifter on the bike while it was stationary. And it shifted roughly (click click click ) sometimes you have to manipulate the shifter to get it into the next gear.

Im planning on taking off the clutch cover on monday to clean the oil pump and i guess put in new friction discs in the clutch.

So what could it be?

loose shift star? broken plates? shifter drum?

bud,

before (as in pre 4000 miles), i could shift it parked with the engine off. Even the clutch adjustments really didnt make too much of a difference.

going to open the clutch cover on monday..... lets hope its not trans or shift forks :(

its a lifan 110.......heard the forks are cheap quality...

Bud,

just saying, I have a gpx 140, a ct70 4spd, a ct70 3spd and a z50... And none of them shift smoothly while stationary. I shift into first fine, then it's dead into second... So I move the bike forward 1/2 inch, pops right in.

Is this your only drivability problem? You have a problem shifting while riding?

Agree with above. I have 5 minis with varying motors in the garage. I cannot shift any of them more than 1 gear without the back tire turning. They are correct...the bikes should require a bit of movement on the countershaft in order to shift it. If not, the bike is probably out of tolerance. Not to say its all bad...you've gotten a lot of miles from the motor. If you go through all the trouble to take the whole thing apart, see if you can swap in a low mileage ct70 transmission. They are on ebay all day at about $25. I just picked one up myself for a motor I need to build.

All 18 bikes I've had in the past, had difficulties in shifting while running stationary/not running.

Honda 3 gear, Honda 4 gear monkey, Honda 4 gear SS50, Takegawa 5gears (x2), Chaly 2 gear, Chinese, Japanese etc...

PS: you have to open the complete engine to see the shift forks..

By taking off the clutch cover you'll only see the clutch.. And if there were a problem, it probably won't have anything to do with your clutch

Clutch adjustment? I wouldn't tare into the engine unless you go through all the other options, have a replacement gasket, and knowledge of what you are doing. I have a GPX150 and does not downshift well unless you revmatch, as well with my '74 CB350, and basically every motorcycle out there with ordinary shift patterns. A lot of 1down4/5up motorcycles too wont shift into other gears out of neutral easily when the engine isn't running, which works out well when your scrambling for neutral.

Have you changed the oil since the issue started?
