I want to change the wire from the coil to my spark plug from the stock black (cheap) one to the ACCEL 8mm wire pictured below. I have a universal wire kit and wanted to see if it possible to SPLICE into the factory wire and properly connect the new one. (solder/heat wrap) I am not sure if the resistance difference with an 8mm wire would effect the heat of the spark or not. I am running a 12 volt CDI now.

Has anyone ever tried this? Will it work or am I ruining a perfectly good coil for the look of the wire only?

You'll need a screw on plug top instead of the stock threaded post. Just find any NGK that comes w/ one loose from your fav. parts store and put that on. I know the splices work nice like the above posters say but I recommend some good heat shrink over the splice.

Thanks again for the input guys. I was able to unscrew the crappy stock cable and install the 8mm Accel wire. I could have also unscrewed the stock boot, but I didnt like the look so I went with the Accel end and will screw on a larger tip for the plug. The coil end had a rubber boot that fit perfectly to seal that connection. I used a bit of de-electric grease and it fit perfectly.

I will re-install the coil and verify spark tomorrow. Theres no reason it wont work as I am sure the core is much better than the previous Chine crap.

Heres to the one off mods! (Cheap too)

I promise to post an update after installation and start up tomorrow.

It really couldnt have been easier to do.

Go ahead and order the kit in red. I installed the coil today and it fired right up- no issues. I also took it for a ride around the block and there are no issues. It looks great on the bike and I will shoot a quick picture soon.

I just cut the new wire to length. (longer then stock for more efficient routing on the motor) Both ends- coil and plug cap had screw ends so it was quick and easy to attach. Good luck and let me know how it goes for you too.
