I have a TB88 kit and the compression is gone and bike is starting to really lose power. I need a new piston and rings. I don't really want to order a piston and ring online because i can get a Takegawa piston from down the street. I'm no motor expert but there shouldn't be anything wrong with using anouther manufactures piston with that cylinder right?

TB ships fast. It would ease my mind a little knowing I have matching components. 2-3 days shipping isn't that big of a deal. I don't know what would happen if you ran a tak top end but keep in mind: if you have a stock head, you need a flat piston, if you have the TB Head you need a dome piston.

If you run the stock head, you can run the takegawa piston in the TB cylinder. However, cross hatch your cylinder so the new rings will seat properly. You'll also most likely lose power going from the Takegawa flat top piston from the TB domed piston.

Also i don't see the piston on the TB website. I found the head gasket kit and the rings for a 52mm piston but didn't see the piston. Did i just over look it?

Email Trailbikes. Guaranteed the TB piston and rings will be cheaper then the Takegawa piston and rings even at a fat discount.

your probably right about that. I think the Takegawa kit is like $89 - my 25% discount. So thats $66.75 and i can go pick it up right now. I really need it installed by friday night. I'll email TB and see what they can do.

You really think the Takegawa piston would cause me to loose a little power.....?

I guess i could just replace the rings. Could i just buy Takegawa rings and use those on the TB piston? (if its in good shape) I won't really know till i break down the top end tonight.

no...tak. rings DO NOT work on a TB piston. The rings are different widths. Like Z88R said, you need to get your cylinder honed before you do anything. Talk to Mike and see how long it would take to get the parts to you. I would almost guarantee that they would be cheaper shipped to you than that Tak. stuff even with your discount. If he can't get it to you on time...you could go the Takegawa piston and rings route and be fine.
