Rented a skid steer and rebuilt my practice track this weekend... still have a lot of grooming to do but it looks like it will be fun!

I set my camera up to take a pic every 12 seconds so I could make a time lapse video... It's kinda hard to see everything that's being done to the track but I got the best angle I could...

Here's the vid... sorry if you don't like the music... these damn songs have been stuck in my head so I went with it...lol

Watch in Full1080p HD!

Here is a Before and After: Hard to tell what all got done from this angle but I'll put up some better photos down the road...

After:

I'll post up more time-lapse videos of grooming the different sections along with more photos as things progress... Riding videos/photos to follow eventually as well...:p

Looks great!

Specs on time lapse shoot? What camera / program?

Used a canon 10D with a remote intervalometer... didn't want to run up the shutter count on my good cameras... about 4700-4800 images total... 1 image taken every 12 seconds...

Imported and cropped images in lightroom to 1920x1080 pixels so they are formatted for 1080p HD resolution...

Used quicktime pro to produce the time lapse... I set the video to be 30fps (which youtube wants)...

With those settings 6 real-time minutes makes 1 second of time-lapse...

:p SOMEBODY needs to do one of these for a milestone build :p

Somehow I doubt that... if anybody wants more info on doing time-lapse let me know... Tips for improving mine are welcome as well...:)

cool! now we want to see you tearing up the track:D
Yep, Yep... can't wait but I still have a ton of grooming, watering, and compacting before it will be ready to ride... and it's dark by the time I get off work so it's may take a little bit for the ride vids...;)

I'm on a mod110 but I'm also 6'3" 210# so it should still be fun...:p

how much for the skid for the weekend? If you dont mind me asking.

United Rentals

$200 / day (8hrs)

$150 / half day (4hrs)

Then add on sales tax, rental protection (optional), diesel cost (I used about 10 gallons in 8hrs), trailer rental($40)...

If you rent it on the weekend... our branch lets you pick it up friday night and return it on monday morning... if you only use it 8hrs, you only get charged for one day.

Good news is... a new neighbor saw me and came over... He owns a landscaping business and a skid steer so he offered to trade tractor time for ride time on my track in the coming months...

Hmmm. I know when I bought my Canon it came with some software that if I remember correctly is able to do this. Perhaps I can get it setup and give it a whirl. I will mess with it this weekend and see what I come up with.

How many CF cards and what GB did you have to use to support that number of photos? I always shoot in raw so I'm not sure what type of damage that would do on my 8GB cards.

As for up4da4nal he is mad because I won't release the track layout I designed for the new Milestone track for the Dec. 6 MiniSX race, hence his asinine comment. Speaking of which you should come down and shoot some pics off. I know Tristan and the guys are coming down.

Thanks for the info.

I think you're right about the canon software but I think it's designed for you to shoot tethered to a computer... which if you can make that work would be awesome because you don't need to worry about memory cards... not positive on that though...

I normally shoot in RAW as well but it seems it would be a little impractical for long time-lapse shoots... you only need to crop out a 1920x1080 pixel image for 1080p videos which can be done on medium jpeg mode with a 10d so that's what I use... I was able to shoot pretty much all day on a 4gb card in that mode...

Of course RAW would be ideal if you have the memory card, hard drive space, and patience to process... I don't think 8gb would last all day though?

Gotta think about batteries too... went through about 3 standard 10d batteries in a day (changed them when they got low before they died)...

I've been wanting to get down there... just haven't been able to make it happen... I have a huge job the Saturday before MiniSX so not sure on that yet...:-(

Looking good. I would like to do that something like that next time I change the track here but I dont have camera. It would be cool to see how much it changes in a weekend of rebuilding.

Yeah... I searched the internet and youtube but couldn't find many time-lapse track builds... I thought there'd be lots of them...

Would be badass to see a more full on track build from a good vantage point...
