crf50 motor question.....

Hey guys a friend of mine has a crf50 w/ a sikk mx 88kit. He drained the oil out of it and without knowing that he did that his brother rode it around for like 15 minutes.......so now when you try and kick it over, it is really stiff but still slightly turns.

What could have went wrong in that process?

Thanks for any help!

I'm about to tear it down just would like a little insight on what needs fixed.

well top-end and probably every bearing in the whole engine...maybe cam too

Im surprised it lasted that long. At least its not completely seized. You just have to tear it all down and see what you have to work with.

yeah. It sucks for him, but could possibly be good for me b/c he is selling me the motor for dirt cheap! So I'm going to tear it down and see what all I can salvage.

Think there is any hope?

Yeah, thats exactly what I was thinking!

Just have to get the money together!!

I will atleast have good cases, and other misc. stuff to use from it!

no pics at this time, but the top end is all in good shape still!! nothing is messed up! So tomorrow will be the bottom end, thats where the FUN will begin.

Today I noticed that when pushing the kickstart down with my hand and goes freely and doesn't move anything on the inside.

^^What does that mean?

and the flywheel turn still freely, so I don't know what is wrong inside.

stock 50 has the clutch on the crank...if the plates are shot the clutch will slip not allowing the engine to turn over.. with the kickstarter

I'm willing to bet the bike will still run and ride fine. Did you ever put oil back in it? Try riding it and if there is any issues with the bike they should be fairly apparent. You probably fried the clutch, and scuffed the piston skirt pretty well.
