this weekend i blew the top end. This weekend i put a new top end in it and re-adj. the valves. The bike fired up first kick, but will not rev out and sounds harsh. What should i do to get this motor back on track. Here are the specs:

Model: 2003 Xtreme CR2

Valves previous adj: .002

valves new adj.: .005

Jetting: main-105 pilot-17.

im thinking that the valves need to be re-adj back to .002.

the exhaust valve will expand more than the intake valve because of the heat.

so you put on a new top end but you didnt adjust the cam timing?

if you have a traditional flywheel ignition, rotate the flywheel so the T mark is lined up with the 12o'clock mark on the case and the piston should be at the top of the stroke. you can now check the diamond marking on the cam and see if its aligned with the 9o'clock mark on the head.

this will help guide you http://www.danosbikeshop.com/Technical/docs/88KitInstall_Instructions.doc

You just have to make sure everything lines up. T mark at 12 o clock notch in case for flywheel and then take plug out and use dowel, or screwdriver to make sure cam is at top of stroke. The little triangle on the cam sprocket should be lined up at the 9 o clock position and lined up perfectly with the mark in the head. More than likely the cam sprocket is a tooth or so off....this is why people say your cam timing is out.

ok. so if its off. how do i adj it. do i take the cam out and re-align it? do i take the cam sprocket off and align that? or do i simple adj the valves?

Normally, you can just pop the cam sprocket off the cam, move it in just a little, and, using a small screwdriver, "inchworm" the cam chain over the teeth one at a time, until you have it here it should be. Reinstall and double check that the "diamond" or "O" mark is on the notch in the head.

Yep, just take the bolts out the cam sprocket and carefully work the sprocket a tooth at a time until it lines up. It takes me a few tries to get it right, I usually end up going the wrong way....just be patient and keep trying until you get it lined up.

"Fire", it's the mark when the plug's supposed to spark.

Check the cam timing again...

Flywheel "T" lined up with notch in case, dot on cam sprocket lined up with notch at 3 o'clock on the head.

Thanks everyone. Ill check it again. One last question. what do i do if the "T" doesnt line up easily to the mark on the case? how do i adj. that? i ask because i had to keep my hand on the flywheel so it wouldn move.
