I was going to buy a new pit bike to chase my kid around the minitrack but now i am not sure . one of the honda dealers is selling 2008 crf150r for $ 3500 . oth and a new pit bike is around $ 2000. / $ 2500 . so dads what do think ?

get a full mod klx110 look in the classifieds on here... you have a track?
 
I would go with the crf150r. They are an awesome bike and will be great for chasing your son around on the track. Won't hurt your back as much and there will be no need to do any seriously expensive mods. A full mod klx110 will run over 3500 bucks, so you cant go wrong with the 150. I wish my dad's back wasn't messed up "they did a spinal fusion to his lower back hes bionic LOL" I would have him get a crf150r so he could ride with us.

My grandad is 69 and he rolls my 50, he likes not having a clutch. Look its like this do you want more of a toy are a real motorcycle? I say the mid size is in the middle, It will do more then a 50 with its longer wheel base and 14/12 wheel size but still feels like a pit bike. But I myself like 50s Its the best toy you can buy. But you can spend more money on one then the 150 and never be as fast...not ever. But there are still more fun if you ask me. Also you can get a used xr80 for around $900 bigger then the 110 but still feels somewhat small.

A pitbike is definately the way to go. With a 150R, you'll just end up with way too much bike to just lay loose and screw around on. Definately go for one of the knock off brands, I'd suggest the:

09 motovert 160

Pitster Pro LXR or X4R

SSR 150R

All great bikes for a fraction of the price yet twice as fun compared to a 150R.

I beg to differ. The 150r is pretty gnarly and will leave you sore chasing a kid around a pitbike track all day. Too much power meaning more throttle control required. That bike is meant to be opened up on long straights and big jumps, not to be babied on a mini track. A 150F at the most, they're hella fun bikes.-Just my .02

i had a 02 ttr125 small wheel it was a great bike but i think i want a little more . also my local mini track turned into a mini sx track with lights so i sneak out on week day after work to ride . my weekends are now for the wife & kid .
 
Go with the LXR. Its got plenty of power, linkage suspension, and its considerably tall. You'll have fun on any one of the mentioned knock off bikes and at those prices, you'll have enough to toss in a few mods for the price you'd be getting with a 150R. I've been there man, started off with a 150F as my bigger mini, craved more power, got a 150R and was too much for the local mini tracks, rode it on big bike tracks a few times, then converted into a supermoto which I rarely ride. I probably would have been better off keeping my 150F and using the extra dough on modding out my DRZ. Iduno, thats just me though. 150s are great bikes, I just wouldnt perfer it for chasing kids around on mini tracks.

When compared to the overseas pitbikes, built crf50s and 110s to me the 150 is a lot more bike for the money. When I was in florida riding at ACE, there were a ton of guys from id say 25 to 40 that had crf150r's One guy even saide he had a blast riding his 150 at OWC which is a very tight SX track. The other guys i talked to said they loved having the bigger bike even on a pit bike track claiming it was so much less work and smooth power.



The gpx160 motors out of the box are torque monsters and have super snappy throttle response, and have smaller tires and rims meaning lots of throttle control.



Truly its personal preference, but from experience and talking to dad's at tracks/seeing proof is what convinced me that a 150 is a perfect dads bike. I have ridden totally worked BBR Primo frame bikes, Pitsters, moto verts, etc etc but nothing compared to a crf150r comfort. I know its not a "true" pit bike but for 3500 buck I would take it and run.



The only thing that would change my mind to a pitster LXR or motovert is if it had a worked takegawa 124se in it. A couple years back I road a pitster with a 124 takegawa motor and it was amazing.
 
I'm a 41 year old Dad. I have issues with my back, legs, arms and everything else ;). I haven't been on 2 wheels since I was a teenager...LONG time ago. over the last 10 years or so...I got back into riding..but went with 3 and four wheels. I had some friends who still rolled on 2 and I'd toss a leg over them every now and then. I really missed the bikes, but I know myself and if I had gotten a big bike...I would be in SERIOUS trouble. If I had something that would be able to sky a 80' triple....I'd prob hit it! I have some friends who are into pitbikes and I ripped around on a few of them as well. Fun as hell, but with my badly beat up body...the cramped ergos made it very uncomfortable to ride for any amount of time. One day at a local practice track...saw a CRF150R. Perfect size for me to rip on and plenty of power. I've been out and about on mine now for enough seat time to KNOW I made the right choice. I've taken it in the woods for some nice easy trail rides and been out on the MX track as well. It is still a bit too small to be a good fit on a full sized MX track, but it can get around ok. On the smaller MX tracks it is a blast. I've jumped it over some decent sized stuff that you can't with the little bikes (unless it is a full mod with piles of bux invested). I know the pitbikes are much cooler to have and build, but if you're like me....not alot of time to wrench and such...the 150R is the ticket. Good power, decent suspension and not piles of maintence if you're not racing every weekend at a modest price. Lastly...as your kid gets bigger...he/she can step up to it and it will be a great bike for them a few years down the road.



Here is a pic of me from this past Sunday. This is a 50-60' camelback I'm hitting. For a 190lb adult...this is about as much as I would want to hit with it unless ya went with the heavy springs.
