could be a fork.. but never heard of them really braking.. i got an 02. supposedly they have **** bottom ends..



could be a output shaft binding somthing up.. only way to find out is to get in there and see.
 
Give a lil more info like when you move the shifter up does it click or anything. Theres a good chance that the shift star/wheel or shift arm is bent or something. Take your clutch cover off, take the clutch off, and the primary gear and look at everything behind that. If nothing there is messed up your shift forks or tranny is shot.

Could be bent selector forks,

loose star selector,

or even broken detent arm/wheel.



Probably need to remove the clutch casing and visually inspect around the selector drum area while shifting by hand. (rotating the rear wheel forward can help engage a gear if something is just slightly out)
