The shift drum isn't the issue. It works just fine if you like that pattern. If you are doing it for the reason so that you don't down shift in nuetral, you are doing it for the wrong reasons because depending on your gearing if you ride first and second, you'll be finding nuetral all the time.

The shifting mechanism in the KLX sucks but what ever you do. DO NOT use the quick shift kit. They don't work. Ask Pax.

wierd. I guess I been lucky my quick shift shaft has been just fine for over a 2 years. I am having an issue though with a ticking noise thats been there from the begining. I can hear it when coasting and simply pushing the bike around when no runing. Bike had sat for a few months and now its clicking pretty loud in first gear but goes away as soon as I shift into second. Also the front sprocket is very hard to spin by hand when the bike is in nuetral not running. Could it be the shaft hanging up? It aint jumping gears or anything.

Are you using Take 4 speed close ratio transmission ?

I do not have too much to contribute here as none of my personal bikes have the KLX engine so I dont really use them, but since Tak came out with the 1d3up drum I have sold about 6 of them in the last month or so and I have not had anyone come back with anything negative about them if thats re-assurance for anyone.
