SIde covers for the engine were cloud silver. The magneto cover should be one piece, if there is a separate disc over the flywheel, it would be polished aluminum (not correct, but works just fine.) The cylinder should be medium gloss black. Cylinder head should be bare aluminum with polished covers, no paint or sealer. If you mean handlebars when you say "steering handle," the 72 model would be chrome with a polished aluminum base. The fork top clamp would be gloss black.
Sorry, stated the top clamp was black, but thinking that maybe on the 72, it might’ve been chrome? Maybe someone else out there has the answer, but I remember some of the 72 parts had chrome Plating like the chain guard.
I'm not sure about that top clamp on the 72/K3s either. I know some were painted cloud silver too, but the K3s might be chrome.
For the flywheel cover...even on the one piece, the raised round portion is polished bare aluminum.
The main engine cases do not get painted. They are "as cast" bare aluminum. Right side, clutch cover, is cloud silver.
