YX 150 Intake & Oil Cooler Relocation

2189 Views 16 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  wickedmx
All,

I have an SR150R on order, along with the TB Parts V2 head and 28mm carb kit. The stock oil cooler is pretty decent and does not really fit any other way on the bike if I make use of the TB intake that points the air cleaner and carb forward vs. the stock direction it points.

So my question is, is there an intake I can use or a special spacer or wedge I can use so that I can keep the angle and air cleaner/carb facing the way it currently is. Here is a pic of the stock setup:

My goal is to figure out a way to use the TB Parts 28 mm carb kit and retain the stock location for the oil cooler. I am open to any ideas on how to make this work ...

Thanks !

150build - 150build6 010 < ----- look here pm dougtrip he can make you one of these but we ran no oil coolersonur race bies all yearad neve had a probem, they are a waste of space on these little engines.
Hack,

Thanks, as usual !

I have a big race in SC on the 24th of Jan and am ramping up for this build. I am trying to get everything ordered so this build goes smoothly (smoother then my last couple anyway). I would appreciate any further build advice you have for this SR150R.

I made a prototype rear facing manifold for mike a TB.It should be here in a month or 2 I believe. It worked out really well,on a 184 v2 kit it went from 17hp with a tb klx forward facing manifold to 18.4 with the rear facing manifold. Both were with vm26's and with a pwk 28 in made just a bit over 19hp.That is a stock out of the box kit.

Wholly crap man ! Those are massive numbers ... I am just looking for a few basic mods to increase power, but still be reliable.

It sounds like your rear facing manifold would do the trick. Any chance you would knock one up for me so I can by pass all this Frankenstien planning I have going on ? I am planning on using Mike's TB 28mm performance carb kit with the V2 head, but I am staying at 150 cc's though.

Let me know what you think, as I cannot wait a couple months.

BTW: Your chassis design, project input, and your knowledgeable responses in the SR150R thread are the sole reasons why I ordered that bike. I am looking forward to trying something new, and you definitely know your sh*t. Thanks for making such a killer bike !

then the clutch went lol

probably true ;) But like I said, those are not the numbers I am shooting for or anything. It is more about making fewer mods to the chassis, etc... I would like to make use of the 28mm carb kit but in the direction that it comes stock. I am hoping that either hackmunch's contact or slowracer come through for me on this one ...

Thanks again guys !
you can use the tb 28mm carb on the stock intake manifold, just get the rubber adapter from vince (tbolt) and stack 2 of the plastic heat spacers (vince has these too). this will give you the right amount of clearance for the tb28 carb or pwk28. that with the goodies i pm'd you about will get you in the ballpark for what you want.
Hack, good idea ... However, isn't the stock intake way too skinny for a 28mm carb ? IE: I will be putting a larger carb and boot on there, but the intake will just limit what actually gets into the head ? The TB parts intakes go from large to small to allow ample flow. And wouldn't 2 spacers look ghetto ?

I am about to just scrap the oil cooler and use the regular forward facing setup for now until the new intakes are out. Neither slow racer or doug got back to me about their parts, so that is a bummer ...

Any other thoughts on this ?
doug will help ya. the intake of the v2 is right around 27mm and the intake off the 2008 x4 Pitsters were 26.3mm so making them match the v2 wasn't that much work (grinding). i am not sure what intake ssr uses.
Hey HACKMUNCH are u saying a 2008 x4 pitster intake can be made to fit the V2 head with a little grinding... Wickedmx what intake is that in the pic above??? Ok what about this intake????? TBolt USA, LLC » Pitbike Engine Parts » CARB KITS » HRC 110 type Intake YX-07305
taz: that is the stock intake manifold on a YX150 in the new SR150R.

Anyone know how to get a hold of slow racer ? PM'd, but no reply ...

Gotcha ... You must get a lot of SPAM PM's or something ;) Anyway, I am VERY interested in getting this intake made, as the stock setup using the tbolt boot looks kind of restrictive. If it is possible for you to make one for me, that would be awesome. Could you please PM me with the details and pricing ?

Also, I am curious if the TB Parts 28mm carb is any good compared to the PWK 28mm. I know there is a price difference, but would there really be much of a performance difference ? I am interested in ease of tuning and reliability.

Thanks !
