I feel like I am resurrecting an ancient thread, but I have just begun research to try to improve my son's 1990 xr100r as he grows and improves his skills. What makes the CR80 forks better?
depending on what year you get the CR forks are better all the way around, less flex, more adjustments and better braking. if I were to replace them I'd definitely go with CR85 forks. you will have to have them lowered and will need new triple clamps along with a steering stem. while your at it you just as well put tapered bearings in.

I have no idea. IMO if you're going to upgrade to the CR stuff I'd go with something newer. yes you will be spending more money but the gain in performance should be well worth it. if your son is pushing the limits of the stock XR stuff it probably won't take long to find the limit on 86 CR forks. the rear shock is the biggest limit factor on these bikes IMO, that's why so many guys go to the full CR frame/suspension.

gotcha, we use ours for mx so I was thinking along those lines. good luck, hope you find what you're looking for.

on a side note I've found it much better to try different search key words/phrases in Google and then follow the Planet Mini links that pop up instead of using the search bar on here.
