Besides adjustability, quality oil from the factory, rebuildable with easy parts available and the ability to be revalved. A reservoir is nice as it helps keep the oil from getting hot since there is a little more of it with a res. Having different spring rates available is good too.

valving...

its gotta be smooth but not soft...

its gotta be stiff but not harsh...

cant be springy(ishock, works), gotta have a nice big bike feel to it (110 ishock, el jefe)

adjustability is also very important

different shox for different people.

full ajustability is nice, but if its a good shock you shouldnt need to ajust anything more than the preload. strong, thick desighn, multipule springrates with dual rate options. a cheap rebuild/revalve if needed, remote res, color options.

whats the word pam?

IF this statement were true, there would be no need for adjustability, revalving and the like, even on the best of suspension. Just as different weight riders need a variety of spring options, riders of differing abilities need different valving options after the correct spring rate is determined.
