Twin Spark kits?

This was posted on another message board and it did get me thinking how it does exactly help? Anyone wanna give a little insight?

Orig. question:

That definately sounds like a gimmick, I mean how can having two spark plugs help, just run an aftermarket coil ($55) or I-cat (200) and the right plug, wouldnt that be just as good?

yes, they are. but back to the question about the twin spark
i run a twin spark head with twin icats it make so much torqe it is unreal you can run it extra rich and the 2nd plug will burn all the fuel that will deliver more HP if you run the same motor but run a twin spark on it it will be good for at least 1-2 hp more when i get the chance in the next week or 2 we will have put our 124cc twin spark on the dyno at crower power and i will say close to 20hp we will see
manwhore,

Post a graph with RWHP and start a new thread when you get the dyno results. Post some pictures of the bike on the dyno while you are at it. Should be a good read.
I would like to see the dyno chart to see how it compares to a 124 SE.
G
Workin on it. Need motard tire.

agreed.. when tuned right the twinspark motors run very well... dont plan on tuning these at home... unless of course your z88r  but yea when tuned right these motors rip............ hey josh enlighten us a bit i know you have some experience wiht these motors

i believe it... when tuned right htese 2win spark motors are monsters
The explosion travels across the cylinder from the spark plug down in i plug bikes. This ttakes time for the fire to reach all fuel in the chamber. WItha double plug the fire meets in the middle instead of going all the across the cylinder. it burns faster for higher volume pressing down on piston earlier and longer.
I'm not sold at all on the twin spark kit yet. This has been on the market for at least 5 years now, and hardly anyone is running them, both in the US and overseas.

However, once Manwhore posts up his dyno graph with the list of his mods, I'll take a look an objective look at it.
We had an I-cat laying around the shop, so i threw it on my 50 (75cc).. didint notice anything besides the clicking noise it makes.
In theory, the twin spark should make more power. More spark to burn more feul, better flame front spread across the combustion chamber. Should be able to burn more fuel if you can get it in there. Getting it to work properly though or actually make more power is another thing. Hence the reason you probably dont see it used commonly on even race engines, aside from Top Fuel drag racing, where so much fuel is being forced into the cylinder the extra spark is vital.
The only advantage i can see from this is that it would make it easier to tune (more room for error) other than that I would have to see the dyno results.
