6Volt engines and 12V engines have different rockers. Does the cam of your XR50 have rollerbearings?
Too much play in rockers
I took the rockers and valve adjustment nut and screws from the 79 z50 head I recently got and put them on my xr50 head. With the valve adjusters all the way in, there is still a lot of clearance between the valve springs and rockers. Could it be that the cam is out of spec?

yes, the cam has bearings and the rockers did come from a 6v z50.
