I have read up on Danos site on how to go about taking the forks apart etc. But I would like to re-use the stock fork bushings for now. I understand you can cut these puppies out. My question is, what tools do you need to cut them out? I am trying to not get into the middle of the project and find out I need a blow torch 8O

Thanks!

hey, i just did a pair of stockers with stock springs/bushings as well as +1s hd springs and bronze bushings (you have to cut the stocker for them).. its super easy, if you specific help just reply

do these in order and you should have no problem

0. put your bike on a stand (with the rear wheel as close to the stand as possible, so it doesnt fall of backwards)

1. take the front wheel off

2. pull the dust covers off

3. take a pair of needle nose pliers and look inside the fork housing, there is a c clip that goes all the way around - it has 2 small holes on the ends that you stick the pliers into, squeeze then pull down (this gets it out of the housing) a washer will come with it

4. loosen the 2 top bolts (14mm)

5. grab the fork lower and pull it out

6. put the spring & lower into a vice if you have one, if not take an adjustable wrench and make it so the PIN in the cap holding the spring and the fork lower lines up with the gap you made in the wrench, you need to do this because you have to tap the pin out and you cant do that with something solid underneath

7. take a nail (or a punch, if you have one that will fit) and a hammer and tap the pin through the cap.. be careful as the pin is hollow so you can jam the nail inside, so try and find the biggest nail you can.. once it goes through take the cap off, then the spring and lower will seperate

8. put the new spring on in place of the old one, put the cap on, then tap the pin back in place

9. when you put the new fork legs in make sure at the top of the SPRING the little marks are pointing inside, --> <-- like that, otherwise they wont fit properly

9. reinstall everything the way it came off and your done

good luck

oh and while everything is apart just clean it with some towels, then put some grease on the actual spring and bushings.. you do not have to cut the stock bushings if your reusing them, you will have to if you have bronze bushings
