Just wondering if anyone knows if I have a 6v Honda CT70 and want to make it a 12v if I can install a 12v harness and just swap the stator plate out with a 12v one from a 1991-1994 Honda ct70 to make my 1981 & 1982 Honda ct70's into 12v CDI bikes? I would of course change the light bulbs and get the 12v rectifier/regulator as well as add the CDI box ... To me the theory makes sense as long as the stators are a direct swap. Unfortunately i dont have one to try it so just curious if anyone else has tried this?

The reason for all this madness is that my harnesses are cut and spliced to almost a useless state and the 80's vintage harnesses are discontinued and no one makes them. the 79 and earlier bikes have different harness and the 90's vintage are 12v cdi harnesses. So i thought i would just convert to the 12v if possible. Make sense? I hope so.

Thanks

You have to grind out a part of the left side engine case so the pulse pickup will fit in place, and you have to swap in the 12V crank. The tapers on the two cranks are different for the flywheels, and they are not interchangable.

You can also go with this conversion kit and still use the 6V crank.

Thanks, yeah I wondered if that would be the case.

Does anyone have a 1981 & 1982 Honda CT70 Wiring Diagram so I can try to piece these things back together? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

So drtbkr188 do you think that kit will work without having to replace the crank? I would still need to repair my existing harness correct? the 90's vintage harness has that pulse pick up which i wouldn't have and if I installed would require me to modify the case. I just can't quite make it work can I.

Huh!?! Well if I get a wiring diagram for a 81 & 82 CT70 then I can always repair the ones I have I guess.

Thanks
