On another z50 motor, I replaced a shifter shaft seal from the outside with out splitting the cases (picked it out and pushed in a new one). Can anyone tell me if this is possible for the sprocket shaft seal? I have a slight leak around it.

Yep, take two sheet metal or decking screws, thread them into the seal on opposite sides and then use two pairs of pliers to pull on the screws evenly at the same time.
