Is it better to powder coat or anodize a rim? I think the powder coat will chip off when mounting tires...then again the ano will scratch off. What do u guys think would be better? Also which one is cheaper

powder coat is usually cheaper and works just fine! some black accel's are powder coated from the factory....

ive done it a bunch of times with no problem's just slip a piece of old garden hose under the tip of the irons.

Get some tusk mini tire spoons from Rocky Mountain they really cut down on scratching and they make it easier for mounting etc

Powder coating of the wheels ads unsprung weight to the bike... I always ano everything.. jsut my .02 for what its worth.

its a trade off powder coat doe's add a bit of unsprung weight , ano scratches like a bitch .

you can tape the outter edges of the wheels and put hose on the tire irons or tape them too .

haha so what should i do, i got some sayin PC and others saying ano????? I doubt it be thatttt much weight and if the power coating wont chip then thats the way i wanna go. But how much is anodizing usually?

If you want black I would anodize. Black powdercoat starts to look milky.

Excel rims are already anodized black and usually around $100 ea. Just my 2-cents.

anno for sure all the good rim companys anno, powdercoat chips off even when you ride in ruts..

haha i dont know what to do, i think ill do ano tho, powder coating will add to unsprung weight and when changing tires i think ill chip it.

The PC kit is worth the money.As long as you already have an air compresser and a seperate oven you dont use for cooking it can be pretty cheap.



But I say Ano the wheels.

Ya I have a friend who can anodize all my stuff. As soon as my bike is done I will have him anodize and powdercoat some stuff.
