GRRRR!

I just received my ATC70 head for my Z50a frankenbike after waiting 2 weeks for it to be shipped from the East Coast to Ontario ($25 shipping!).

Guess what? Spark plug hole is stripped, somebody shoved a helicoil in it (not installed, shoved!), there's corrosion on the cam shafts' journals and the the rhs cam cover has 3 broken fins!

The item description says came from good running unit... BS! All the nitrous in the world wouldn't help that head create compression!. Not only is the plug hole now oversize (M11 x 1.00?) to allow for the helicoil, the flange surface for the plug gasket is galled and concave due to stupidity.

The seller claims ignorance (whaddya mean heli coil? You know, the sharp thing that stabbed your fingers when you tried to install a spark plug on a crazy angle?). After reviewing his record, I see he's been buying and selling bike parts on fleabay for some time, with a 100% record (up till now).

After doing some reading I see a few of you have installed Timeserts or Threadserts. I thought about doing this myself but the kits are like $90, the local machine shop wants $50, and it's doubtful they'll be able to pull it off (oversize threads). What was your experience?

I ****ing do to i have been waiting for a month for an 88 kit i think i got ripped off i filed a conplaint....
I think all the negative feedback gets deleted after a year. I had one burn to my name (of my fault, of course) and my feedback is at 100% now.

Mind posting the link?
haha, he's a noob to ebay. That was his only third time selling an item. Atleast you know for next time to ask for pictures and all that.
If nothing else the item was guaranteed for $315 by paypal. I'll get my $50 out of it.
they work fine, I have one in my footpegs>case and can't tell the difference.

Timesert?
Timesert?

I have used them, the work very well. I think they're too expensive to bother doing it to a $20 head though. The kit i bought was $100.00.
haha that thing wouldn't run for ****!!!! what is he talking about off a "good running machine"???

yes timesert, helicoli, takes 10 minutes or less to put in.
As an FYI the easiest repair and the cheapest repair is to drill and tap it out to 12mm. You can readily get spark plugs with the same reach in 12mm. As a matter of fact, I purchased a head from someone on this forum that the threads were stripped and it was not that big of a deal. Took about 5 minutes to repair doing it that way.
I have a box full of those heads ,could of saved you a headache.
I've done what fatcaaat said and used an NGK DR8HS, it works just fine.

NGK spark plugs symbol code

Just gotta swap the C for a D in the plug number

Thanks for the tips guys!

The ATC70 head has much larger valves, will the spark plug clear with a 12mm thread tapped all the way through, I can I get away with cutting the thread short?
I believe there is enough room to thread the 12mm plug all the way in and not have the valves hit the plug tip. The DR8HS plug has the same 1/2" reach as the CR7HSA plug.
