OK so I put one of those chinese XR70 motors from ebay in to my old atc 70.

But the old motor has only 1 wire from the stator to the coil.

New motor has a bundle of 5 or so.



I am guessing also the new motor is 'pointless' - in that it has electronic ignition.

So it needs a CDI box?

Where can I get something like that?



Any suggestions?

Anyone else do this kind of swap on an older 50 or whatever?

You are swapping a 12V motor onto your 6V harness. First off, you'll need to change all your bulbs if you want to use your lights (if you have any. Secondly, get a wiring diagram from the person you purchased the motor from.



To be completely honest, you should have received the CDI box, coil, etc. with the motor you purchased. Contact the guy who sold you the motor and get the information you need. At this point, you have a heavy paperweight.



I'm going to be doing the swap over the winter, but won't be using lights, and will use an XR50 harness, CDI, etc.

The ebayer who sold me the engine isn't responding to emails (big surprise).



anyway this guy has been very helpful and is setting me up with cdi, coil, etc.
