Thoughts and opinions on a potential suspension change...

sgr-usa.com

Currently I'm running the stock suspension with BBR HD springs front and rear. I'm mostly doing a bit of parking lot and kart track riding for fun. I'm not racing competitively unless you count throwing elbows with some friends.

I recently changed from SL26s to TT91s (10") and love the difference, but the suspension, while much stiffer with the HD springs, is still just a boinger in the corners. I had a chance to ride a friends 50 with the BBR SP5 forks and a +2 swinger/resi shock(cheap). Major difference in feel in the corners. I'm hoping the forks in the SGR package will be somewhat comparable to the BBRs without the price. I plan on going with a stage 2 88 TB kit and AHP 4 speed tranny as well and figure I minds well try to tame the suspension before adding more power.

So long story longer; thoughts and opinions on this package for sumo riding? Alternatives?

Keep in mind that I'll never be jumping or MX racing this 50 and this is a budget build for fun when the next big bike track day is still a month away sort of thing.

Best shock ever for a CRF50 or clone with an A-style swing arm is the FoxAirshox!!!! Infinitely adjustable! 250$

PERIOD:cool:

I've heard that from several sources and plan on upgrading to one down the road. Just want to get an overall package on it to start with.

On topic, those SP5 forks do feel awesome and work really well. I have yet to ride a bike with the sgr's on there though.

Damn. They'll let anyone on here I guess.

I'm hoping the SGRs perform at least close to the BBRs for what I'm doing. I'm sure the performance differences would be more obvious with hardcore offroad running, but for mini-motard business I think they'll be close after I change the fork oil. I'll save the big bucks for the TMGP KLX110 I want to build.

That's the Chinese rotor/caliper combo I've had good luck with. While there are variations, usually the caliper will swap most parts with the NSR50 unit it was based off of, the problem items being slide pins, lots of variations there... Being NSR50 derived there are lots of good pad options available. Lots of rotor options as well, but they're mostly just differing in looks, till a proper full floater comes out for this setup just go with what you like the looks of.

Lots of bikes use this setup, pick a vendor you like and see what they'll offer. Then plan on having the forks reworked by a pro. Even basic damping rod forks can be made to rock for mini-moto use especially if you're forgoing jumps/dirt. Consider shortening up whatever you get also as most pitbike suspension setups are designed for excessive travel which you don't need or want.

I think if your budget it a concern, work on the rear suspension first. I highly recommend the fox float air shock. All the other shocks of comparible price still feel really "boingy". I think the stock forks with extended fork legs, HD bushings and springs can hold you over pretty well if the track is fairly smooth until you build up funds to get something better.

When you have a more powerful motor, strong, fade-free brakes will win you races. Then I will have to agree with what the other person said about focusing on that to help you decide what forks to get.

what all you doing to the klx?

for the 50, get a 70 swinger and 70 forks with a fox air shock

For the 50 I've already ordered the suspension package. I decided to pitch in and just see how it works out. Maybe it'll be a waste, but I'm already having a blast on the stock stuff so any changes will likely be for the better. I do plan on upgrading to the Fox shock eventually.

The KLX, when I say build, I really mean start looking in the new year for one that someone has already dumped a ton of parts into and no longer has the time, money, and/or drive to keep up with it and is now just looking to recoup some of the money spent. That's my preferred route anyway.

awwww..shizzle...its kibby!

"kibby" was his street name back when he worked on Montrose giving sausage massages in dark alleys. He was known for what he called the "kibby special". Without going into too much detail, it required a midget stripper with an infatuation with spaghettios, 4 gerbils, a fishing pole, duct tape and a watermelon. The fire department and PETA put a stop to that one kinda quickly..
