Making my own exhaust

976 Views 15 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  mousedriver
Well i decided to make my own exhaust. I was going to use some 18 ga. stainless steel 1.125 diameter. What size is the tubing on most aftermarket pipes? anyone have any hints??

depends ALOT(!!!!) on the motor you have, im thinking of designing one myself...
1 to 1.25 depending on the pipe. You can't go wrong with 1.125 stainless. What is your motor setup?
Here's a prototype of one I'm working on.

I'm stuck with this particular design though.

I can't figure out how to turn the rabbit into a baffle

Any sugguestions would be greatly appreciated

I have no clue but make sure you polish up those muffler bearings!

They'll turn up some high HP numbers soon as they are polished up! Trust me.
LMFAO 50man...
post up pics, im thinking about the same
Also dont forget to install the orange power band in it, its the best.
What kind of bender are you planning on using to bend that tight of a radius? Where can you find them and how much do they cost?

Oh F'n man, me too
hey, as far as bending i would guess heat and do it by hand? i have a few benders and some experiance with using em and i would probably weld a piece of steal to a work table use an accedaline(i think thats how u spell it) torch to heat it and wrap it around the welded piece by hand...but that just seems like the esiest way 2 ME...i could be totaly wrong

i also have been thinking of making a pipe but havent realy had the need 2 YET

o duh his ? ... you can get a torch kit for like 100 and a few $ for the gasses or a bit more for refilable tanks... as far as pipe benders you CAN make your own but u can get a basic hydrolic for like 60$ or so

dont mind my bad spelling...funny i cant spell but get A's in english...kinda sad huh?
Actually there is a difference between a $60 "pipe" bender and a tubing bender. Tubing and pipe are measured differently. I can get a 2.5" radius on our pines model 4 with little or no disformation. This particualr bender runs about $95K its an industrial bender i have at my shop. I know you can pick up something like a tube shark or similar for under 5500 with some mandrels but the tightest radius with that size of tube on one of those is about 4". pro-tools.com has some for around 1500 for something you can keep at home. But look at how many pipes you can buy for the price of the bender if your only gonna make one pipe, but its also a good excuse to build a roll cage for your tuck if you got one.

The engine will be a TB 88 kit wth head.

Drew you can do it by hand but you would have to use a thin wall steel but that doesnt matter for an exhaust.

50man i can roll the sprials out and weld on the other sections just dont kow how your gonna get it purple j/k do you only what 3 sprials in your pipe?

Ill have some pics posted sometime next week if i get time to work on it. I am going to use 1 1/8" tube with 2 3/4" aluminum silencer.

you planning to make the core and everything for the silencer?

G'Day,

looks like its gonna be a straight through pipe or the Rabbit will be the muffler (exhaust can)...good luck with bending this kinda stuff at home just heating up thin-walled stainless tubing.

taking the piss, eh?

The metal will probably kink if you try bending it by hand won't it?.

I'm no expert with pipe but I've been playing with 1.5" gal steel and found pie sliceing and then mig welding the pieces together works pretty well if you don't have a bender.
