Lifan 150 or yx150/160

Just doing a bit of research into motors at the minute and I'm looking for feed back from guys that can compair both.

I've no experience with any lifan motors, but I like the idea of the oil filter on the 150.

Everyone and their mother seem to be specing the yx motors in bikes this weather, so I'm guessing there good as well.

The motor would more than lightly be running stock to start with.

Is there any major difference (realiability/power) or is it just a case of whichever you can lay your hands on at the right money???

I would go Lifan. Their faster then the yx's out of the box. Many people go the yx way cause you can put BBK's and stuff on it. But really your going to need a decomp cause if you kick it wrong once. It will break. Go lifan and have a reliable motor.
what do you mean by it will break because i just bought one
I have both motors. They both have proved to be pretty reliable and do a great job for what I do. The YX160 vibrates more and has a noisy top end compared to the Lifan. It's almost like the YX just isn't as balanced as the Lifan. As far as power goes, the Lifan feels that it has just as much displacement as the YX160. I have a feeling that when I upgrade the YX head to a V2 my opinion will slide more towards the YX but for now I'm enjoying the Lifan more... Hope that helps...
Let us know how you feel once you get that V2 head on. I just picked up a Lifan 150 for one of my projects and was thinking about picking up a YX for my other mini.

You'll find that the YX ISN'T properly balanced (balance factor wise) ... otherwise it'd feel smooth being a horizontal engine ... That's also most likely WHY they flog out the oil slingers and chatter the clutch rubbers to death ...
or maybe because the clutch baskets have excessive play. the 2009 yx160 should have an oilfilter no oilslinger, a sixplate cluth, stronger cases. and the yx is more buildable.

if you put a high compression piston or kit, the engine will run the risk of cracking the cases as you kick start the engine. I have 3 yx150s one with pumped up to 180cc and no split cases yet. However I have personally seen others cases cracked!!!

yx is already out with a new 150 oil filter engine.
