I have about 200 miles on my lifan 4up 140 and it has started to develop a click in first gear. It seems to do it from low all the way until you can't hear it over the pipe but doesn't make the noise when you let off the throttle. It may do it a little bit in 2nd but very little. Its almost like the chain is too tight, but it is fine. Any thoughts?

My 120 had that noise mine ended up being due to the countershaft Sprocket didnt fit as tight as it should have on the splines and at low speeds it would wobble and make a noise similar to what you described. Not saying thats definetly your case but it is something to look into.

It just started today and I tightened up my chain a little today, but its still plenty loose. I guess I can mess with it and see...thanks.

You may be right. It just pisses me off that I have to work on this brand new motor. It has a 6 mo warranty but I guess it only covers parts.

Found at least part of the problem. Would these two gears cause it to only click in first gear? I don't feel like splitting the cases to check the rest if these two are the culprit.

There's yur problem. you might wanna find out where the missing tooth went.

Missing piece was at the bottom of the case. What would those gears be called?

if you didnt split the cases i guess its your kick start gears maybe. look like 1st gear to me tho
