Kick starter dragging/resistance...? Clutch?

1016 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  MikeL50
Hey guys.. just got my new bike from MX 356 Tye Bankhead form Tx.

165+R w/ alot of goodies on it...?

-Hyd. Magura Clutch-

Well heres my dilema: When I kick the bike over it won't fire, the kick starter just slides through the stroke w/* alot of resistance* without engaging the kickstart gear.

I havn't talked to Tye yet but I was wondering if there is a decompression gear on it or is the clutch the issue?

i had the same problem with my 110. it is probably your clutch springs. i put the bbr heavy duty spring kit (six heavy duty springs instead of the 4 lightish duty ones) i would try that first, the kit is fairly cheap, and that solved the same problem that i had. however you might have somethin else goin on
With any hi-comp motor like the 165 you will have some slippage. I'm sure this bike has the HD springs in it. I would try looking into the clutch/master cylinder and reset that. Also tap on the Shifter shaft to make sure it is set, and make sure the 19mm bolt is tight on the clutch basket. Maybe someone like Dood with more insight on this will chime in.
thanks guys....i'll check it when the sun comes up.
I did what was mentioned and it didn't make a difference, however I did figure out that if I push the kickstarter down till it hits the pegs (slowly) once and bring it back up it'll fire right up.

So I guess I'll be doing that for now, i started it several times this way without any more issues... seems to be fine now?

Thanks Guys.

that thing rips btw!!

Its kida cold here and didn't want to ride it for long because of the jetting, I'm sure it must be lean.

I didn't want to take a chance with it detonating...

i had that problem. it was the mastercylinder on the hydro clutch. just bleed it out real good and make sure the o ring in the cylinder is ok. i had air leaking past it. hope this helps
