Jetting TB kit

Ok, I have my 88cc stock head kit running pretty good now. The only thing is that at wide open throttle when the bike is at or close to the rev limiter it makes a popping sound. It kinda seems like the sound is coming back through the carb or maybe from the crankcase vent. I just got a new plug, Cr7hsa and the bike acts the same. The stock main jet is a 89 and I just ordered a kit from Classic Honda that has leaner main jets. I am just wondering if this popping noise means I am too lean on top or what??? I am more used to 2 strokes so I am a noob when it comes to jetting 50s.

To me it just sounds like rev limiter. Mine used to do the same thing, when I ran it up on the limiter it would start bouncing off and would kinda cough back through the carb, but other than that would run like a raped ape.
ok guys

its been a while since i have posted but to every one that wants to know about jetting!!!

for the main jet, once the bike is hot pull the choke on a little bit and ride it at full throttle if it runs better you need a bigger main if not its too rich!

its that easy hope this helps every one????

Hey Jetster220, what jet did you run when you had the stock head on your TB kit? I just got a new plug and I cant tell where I am at, the white porcelain part is still just plain white after riding around for like an hour. The tip of the plug started off by getting a really white film on it but that flaked off and now the tip is getting darker each time I check it. It almost seems lean but everyone has said that their kits came way rich stock. I really just want this motor to be reliable.
Ive got a 85 in it now which is what I had in it when I was runnin the stock head. On mine it came with the 89 and it was way to rich. But it all depends on your elevation and everything. It sounds to me like you could stand to go up a step on the main and see if that gets teh plug alittle closer to the color it needs.
Looking through jetting threads cause i had a question.

Got a TB 88 wth stock head. Big bog on bottom. if i chop the throttle from idle it will die. Air screw need adjustments?
yes, I would definitelt say to mess with the sir/fuel screw
Also you may need to play with the pilot jet. Try going bigger because it sounds like its starving for fuel when you twist it open that quick. You should be able to get it most of the way out by playing with the air/fuel screw though.
Sorry to thread jack but id rather sit it out on here rather than posting new thread...

Im having jetting issue too... im running an 85main on a 20mm carb. 110cc-ish. I know the carb is a little small but explain this....

wicks fine but plug gets black oil with needle clip on bottom so i moved up to middle, plug now black sooty rather than oily but revs/wicks up like a 2smoke real fast, move clip to top notch and plug is still black sooty, bike now revs more charecteristic of a 4stroke i.e slower but seems to chug away nicely, however at WO its popping and banging like a bitch on de-acceleration.

im pressuming i need to go smaller on the main to get biscuit brown and centre the needle clip for acceleration? Now if this is the case then by going to a 24mm carb as suggested (previous posts)surely im going to have to seriously down jet the 24mm carb to about the same amount of fuel air mix the 20mm carb is running or do i have it all wrong?

basically if i need to down jet a 20mm carb from an 85main then by putting a 24mm carb on it am i gonna see any improvement as surely i will need to seriously choke the 24mm carb???
