Yep. That's why I ditched the VM26 in favor of the PE28 (and ultimately the PWK28 ). PE28 is still one of the best carbs for the price. Tunes very easily too.

175/22.5, I'd suggest. Tuning from there for local conditions, of course.

PE28 adds a bit of steam up top, though.

i ran 190 main, 22.5 pilot and needle clip set in the middle...

I blended 111 race fuel with 93 octane, and my plug looked pretty good.

A 175 might be a little lean for the daytona.

Also had a pe28 , but i favored the vm26 over that carb, seemed to like the smaller carb, (on a perimeter frame 50)

This is just my 2 cents on why the engine doesn't start.

Do the jetting like i said.

If it still doesn't start when its warm, check the valve clearances. My guess is the valve clearance is too tight, When the engine warms up everything expands slightly, if the valves are too tight then when they warm up they are actually opening, that will cause it not to start up when its warm. How many hours are on the engine?

Also does the engine smoke at all? if you have a ton of hours on the engine, may be time for a rebuild. I know in the daytona service book, they call for new rings after a few races... But still my guess is the valves are adjusted wrong.

check your valve adjustment, see what they are set on. I've had 3 daytonas, one of mine was set really tight, did the same thing when i was hot, wouldn't start or was really hard to start. Just check the valve adjustment.
