Working on Trx70, Tag on the frame says 1984, So i'm assuming that's the build date and sold as a 1985? I'm having someone putting the engine back together. It was in a box in pieces when I gave it to him (he wasn't thrilled to do it lol) So I go on Hondapartshouse.com to pull up some drawling's and find some part numbers. first problem I run into. They don't show a 1984/85 trx70. They only show a 1987 trx70. So I pull that up thinking it will be the same. There are 2 oil seals that go between head and cylinder. On the 1987 drawling it also shows two "collars" kind of look like washers. One of them is no longer available.
So just for fun, I pull up a drawling for a 1985 Atc70. It shows the two oil seals between head and cylinders. But it does NOT show those two "collars".
Does anyone know whats going on here? Do I need the "collars" or just the oil seals? Here are the breakdowns I pulled from hondapartshouse.com. first one is 1985 ATC70, Second pic is for 1987 TRX70,

#11 and #9 are the oil seals shown here for 1985 ATC70

#10 and #11 are the "collars" and #15 and #12 are the oil seals here for 1987 TRX70

How do I know what I need for my engine is there a way to tell these two apart? Thanks

Perfect, Like I said engine was in pieces when I got it and did not see those little collars anywhere. I'll get the little oil seals ordered and try is from there. I have no clue on the year then. I guess Built in 1984 sold as an 86? I know the frame tag says 84, but i'll have to double check when I go back over there. When you say you don't need the collars if I don't have them, meaning even if the motor originally had them from factory, I can get by not using them, just use the oil seals?

Yes, just using the o-rings is fine. All collar #10 does is basically center the o-ring once the head gasket is in place. O-ring #12 has an inner groove that collar #11 fits into that does the same thing; keep it centered in the oil return passageway when reassembling. A light coating of bearing grease on those o-rings keeps them in place after you've installed the head gasket.
