I have a 3-speed CT70 that I am going to convert to a 4-speed chinese engine. (any suggest on displacement btw?)

I am interested in using this ebay kit from webllc HONDA CT-70 CT70 HARNESS KIT LIFAN CHINA 70 110 125 CT: eBay Motors (item 160491280424 end time Oct-19-10 06:18:19 PDT)

Has anyone used it? It looks like it has EVERYTHING, down to the battery even.

At first I thought it was more than i wanted to pay for wire harness but then i really looked at what you get and thats new bars, light bucket, all 12v bulbs and blinkers, throttle tube, and battery, keys, Mirrors.. Should be completely legit after this is all on there.

I plan on using this ct70 on the road so I think the decision for the big bore and the 12v lights are important. This kit seems great because its got everything to make it street legal and pass inspection. I have had alot of luck with a chinese 125cc I have on my pitbike and I am contemplating just going 125cc again with this or should i go bigger?

The fact that it comes with bars is a big plus for me because right now the bars i have are bent, and were goin to need replaced or straightened and blasted and powerdercoated for the restoration.

Since I am running the jap engine so i threw out worrying about keeping everything original so I am really hoping those bars look/work nicely. Buddy of mine has a china clone CT70 and one of his bars is wobbly.

NO i havent I am on the fence and its not because of the quality of the kit I will explain why. MY CT 70 is a semi-auto 3-speed, street legal and plan to use it on the road too.. so i want to accomplish these things:

#1 Make it a handclutched, AND give it more power so that I can gear it for road use.

#2 convert to CDI and brighten the lights by going 12V.

I have had good luck with chinese pitbikes so my initial knee jerk reaction is to just order that kit, and couple it with a 125cc lifan. It would be that simple. That kit up there has everything, and its going to be nice to have all new wires in a 40 year old bike. BUT

Then i discovered this:

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

With that kit all you need to buy is a 12v battery. They will give u the CDI conversion parts and bulbs and you can use it on your OEM ct70 motor.

Then to address the other issues you would get the manual shift conversion kit from tbparts.com AND the 88cc kit w. carb and racehead and cam. It will cost probably and extra $200 dollars do do it this way, but u are keeping your OEM japanese motor it will definitely be worth it in the long run as far as the value of the bike goes.

Honda Trail Bikes

I think that it will be more satisfying to go with the tbparts kit and keep the OEM motor. my motor only has less than 700 miles on it, So its kind o a shame to just toss it for a big china. tbparts claims the power is comparable to the 125s and i would have to imagine this thing has a sweeter power band, those big chinas are all low-end and sign off pretty early in the RPMS.

Edit: I linked the full race packaged from tbparts, for 359.00 You can also do the mods in increments, but the 88cckit for 124.00.. then later throw in the cam, then head and carb, etc. I will most likely do it all at once.

In my opinion, keep it Honda and use the TB kits. I did the 117cc TB kit with a 4-speed manual and the bigger oil pump and absolutely love it. Lots of power, and I used to have an 88cc kit, no comparison. Good luck

Why didn't i see the 117 kit. Im going to look again. I was thinking go chinese because I didnt realize how easy it was to convert the honda to 12v. Now that I know that i would like to stick with honda.

But i must say I have had alot of luck with chinese 125s. I dont know about the bigger ones, but 125s are great. Cam and a hc piston and a 24mm carb in one and its a beast.

i def wouldnt buy the 88 kit without the race head, there is night and day difference the two. and if you can swing it a 4spd would be worth every penny for road use.

as for the cdi conversion I wouldnt buy it, the seller wants 40 for shipping???? thats rediculous when the 160 kit only charges 20 for shipping. i would go with the full wiring kit.

just my 2 cents tho.

Well the thing is, you need to have a CDI to run the wire kit. You cant just plug that wire kit into a 6volt points ignition system can you?

That wire kit would work good if u alread had a 12v CDI (on the china motors)
