Hi gents,
My buddy recently gave me a 2004 NSR50. This was the special "Smokin Joe" edition that he purchased brand new in 2004.
Long story short, he has a teenage son and the kid totally trashed the bike. He wanted to make it street legal so he added some lights. The kid also spray painted the rims, fork, and bodywork metallic blue from a Krylon rattle can. He also spray painted all the aluminum flat back. He also crashed and destroyed the beautiful bodywork. Needless to say, I am in total shock that a beautiful bike like this was trashed without any regards. Well, now I have it and I want to totally restore it. Looks like there's minimal rust, the tank is in great shape with no dents or holes. The rims are true and the bike rolls nicely. I have never tackle a project like this before. So I don't even know where to start. I am thinking of just completely de-greasing the bike and washing it down. Then, strip it down to the frame and use paint remover to remove all the Kryon spray paint. However, I don't know what else to do for the engine and the replacement parts.

Does anyone have the service manual or docs for the bike? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The approx. 4000, that were import to the in 2004, were all white, with no Honda markings. A red, and blue sticker kit was available. There were Respol models in Japan. Good luck, with your project. Watch, Ebay over the next couple months. I bought an 2004 NSR50R, and will be parting it out.

Did the US model come with a headlight (or even a cutout for the light)? I have a headlight (that doesn't work), and a speedo that seems legit. Somewhat trying to figure out what I have. Strong guess is an NSR50R that's been kinda "hacked." :(

The bike in the picture, looks great! As, far as I know, Honda never made this paint job. It could be a, one off display bike. Made for a trade show, or race track display. Or, just custom painted by the dealer. As, far as the headlight. Since the 2004 NSR50R, is based on the street legal JDM NSR50/NSR80, there is a hloe, in the fairing to mount a headlight. Which, is covered up, by the number plate on the US model. There are also holes for turn signals, on the sides of the fairing. US models, came with tachs only. sand off some of paint, and see if the Joe Camel colors are there. Please, keppus up to date, on what you find.
