Frame Bracing?

5300 Views 14 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  TXSIK50
I saw this Sik 50's frame brace for 90$ at AHP

Ahp Minis

Does anyone have one of these mounted up? I cant tell where it runs from/to on the frame.

I was thinking of getting one made up myself. Although, I just found the thread on here with people doing top tube gussets themselves, is this a better option?

No that is not a beter option, and it won't fit a 70 frame.

Heres the brace I did. After the pics were taken. I made a brace from the gas tank mount to the lowwer part of the head tube.

Also Weld the lower tube lower in the arch than I did,the lower it is the stronger it will be.

Just make your own. I've had a brace on the frame under the tank on my XR70 for awhile now and had some nasty landings and never had it move. It goes from the head tube to the shock mount. I'll try and get some pics soon.

But now I need to make one underneath from around the tank mount back by the top motor mount just to be sure.

Yours is the same way Reeg modified his stock frame kits,I've seen 3 of those bend. When you strenghten the top tube only the frame bends taking the arch out of it like on a stock 50

Yeah I know, thats why I said I also need to brace it like the frame you did in the pics above. Only a matter of time before I take a hard hit and bend it the way it is now.
so when frames bend where do they bend? do the head tubes bend or do they bend in the middle which makes the forks kick out? my 70 is down to the frame in my garage wait for parts and im going to brace it and paint it. so is the very last picture on here enough to keep it from bending?
come on guys! is that one bar underneath enuf? also should i brace the head tube? beef up the metal around that?
I am doing my 50 frame this spring summer for a stock mod build project. Going to do the top of the frame neck all the way across and the bottom somewhat like slowracer did and extend it to the headtube. Make make some gussets for the subframe where it mounts to the frame. I only weigh 140lbs but I do not want to make the frame too heavy so make the frame stronger but still not too heavy comes into play. I will try some things to lighten it up a bit too.
Nice work and what shock are you running on that rcm swingarm?
Heres my frame brace job. 3/4 in. tubing with 1/8 in thick flat steel with holes. The frame was also bent when I started, so I cut it, bent it back, and welded the gap shut.
