I might have to check the bearings again, They might be bad, and I could try repacking them. the steering stem nut is as tight as it will go and so is the nut for the clamp, this is why Im confused over the whole thing

spend the $35 and just buy All-Balls...they know what they are doing they specifically make bearings and only bearings...well worth it...you have to replace both races because they are shaped differently for ball bearings vs tappered...no grease issue, no crushing the ball bearings, last forever....

Or just spend half as much for the ones I linked to. maybe their manufacturing tolerances aren't quite as good as allballs (but they could be making both) but it's not like head bearings are super critical or rotating like a wheel or crank bearing would be.

Plus I'm pretty sure that anyone that makes bearings specifically makes bearings.

Nah I had two sets of tappered bearings...one a generic one someone gave me with my sano front end and one from all balls...the bearings sat within the housing better, spun better, didnt pinch....for $15 its worth it, if we were talking 50 or something then ya but $15 plus if you go to your local shop and pay $35 and have them now vs going tbolt paying $25 with shipping and waiting a week. $10 is even less now...

Well I got my bearings today I'm not impressed that instructions weren't included but the bearing themselves are much higher quality then stock. Do I need to remove the old bearing races?

To take the races out, just have the forks out (obviously), take a round flat-faced long punch and a hammer and tap them out going in a circle motion going from teh inside-out (to get the bottom one out, youd be hitting from the top of the stem..).

For putting the new ones in, the key is keeping them flat going in-if they get off to one side you're goign to have a hard time getting them in. Get a board or something, hit them in to where they're flush with the neck housing, then get a socket or round stock just barely smaller than the OD of the race (But smaller than the neck ID so it can fit in there!) and go to town, again in a circular rotation.

I used the long flat head punch and tapped them out evenly, and used a bearing punch to install the new ones. Had the whole job done in maybe 10 minutes, it was really straight forward guess instructions werent needed after all :D best of all my head shake is gone and the forks have a smoother feel while turning. I bought the all balls kit and had it overnighted to me... Thanks guys
