Has any one had a problem fitting sealed bearing onto the shiver fork?

My mate phoned me up today to say that he couldn’t get the bearing to go all the way down on the steerer tube and it is about 2” from the bottom crown.

I told him to just press them down but he thinks doing this would split the bearings.

Is it just a case of filing a bit of the steerer tube?

I should be getting mine next week so I want to try and find out what the problem is before I get them

Thanks

Tom

MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING THE CORRECT BEARING. . .THE TOP BEARING IS SMALLER THAN THE BOTTOM. . .JUST A THOUGHT
LOL

you cant mess that up...think about it.....how would you even get the top bearing to the bottom??

here is what you do.....

get a torch and heat up the bearing a lil bit (heat expands things) then slide it down over the stem.....it should snap into place with ease. hold it down and let cool off. do not over heat the bearing!!

teh tighten down method is not a very good one at all......it takes one wrong seat to have your entire front end feel loose or uneven. i would strongly recommend NOT doing it that way.

hope that helps
