Ok so I was going to buy the Honda TB 88cc kit as I have heard that it is a great kit to buy but I got a great deal on a Takegawa 88cc cylinder and piston so I bought that instead. As I was installing it I accidentally turned the cam and lost track of how the chain and gear go back on. It would not start after that so instead I decided to time it. I marked up the T on the flywheel with the mark on the case and no matter how hard I tried, the dot on the cam gear would not lie exactly on the mark on the head. It was either above or below the mark when the flywheel was centered on T. Also, I am not sure if I have the cam 180 degrees off or not. Never the less, the engine fired however seeing as its almost midnight here I just revved it once and left it. What I would like to know is whether or not I did it correctly? Is the cam 180 degrees off? And is my mark being lower than the mark on the head bad? Furthermore I heard some knocking when I revved it. Was that low oil to the head or a problem with my cam timing. Thanks guys.

I had similar problem in the markings not correctly lining up.... my cam was 100% in the correct direction though..... i put the 0 above the notch and it started no problem however taking it out on the road it was missfiring and spluttering seriously bad... i rode back home and moved the 0 mark to below the notch and that cleared it up straight away...

I would personally seperate and check your not 180' out . just remove the cam cover only align the T mark and then check the cam.... if the lobes point inwards you clear.

NO, it would not run if it was 180 out. It would ruin the valves though. If it started up and ran but had alittle ticking noise then it simply means you are about 1tooth off on the timing.

runs for me when its 180"off"

the plug sparks on every turn, if you turn the flywheel over a couple times it cant be wrong.

edit: well, rereading it your timings a tooth off, or your camchain has stretched
