Their ok but i would'nt bother putting money into it,just a cheaper motor to bolt in and ride.
I am curious to see where this one goes... Id'e like to hear from some people that have had both.

If your looking for cheap power, a gpx motor can be built up to push 20hp at a cheap price, if money isnt a factor here build a crf motor that will have alot longer lifetime
yer i dont have that big of a price budget here so ill probly buy a gpx 160cc and do all the mods my self and my mate can do all the head work and lighten the crank up he own a cylnder head work shop mike gosslar asked him to mini bike head for him when hes in australia next hows that lol so gpx is the way to go sweet thanks peoples
gpx160 can hit 19hp with just a bolt on kit lol.

but if you build a 124se crf50 motor or something around that. youll love it and itll last for a long long time.
im gunna build a 50 from nothing buy every thing lol but i dont want to spend like 10.000 all up on it only like max 5.000 so yea and the gpx motors are cheap and fast probly not reliable
ok how unreliable and how long do u think with proper mantainence will it last? 20hours, 40 hours 100 hours? and wut about a comparibly built crf motor? Im thinking about building a low budget full mod crf70 so this will help me with that project. I know this is the crf50 thread but come on Im trying to build this honda to eat 110s and rep us honda guys lol but I have wondered how much sacrifice is there with a GPX crate motor? lil, lot, or just worse odds?
you can go lots of hrs on a stock GPX160 and have 12hp with a 4spd or you can have a fully worked overated CRF50 motor that you can get around 13-14hp and be luggin a $3000-$5000 bill

a GPX160 with a V2 head will make 16-17hp that you can ride everyday and last a long time also.

i have a GPX160 with a 188cc Big Bore Kit and a V2 head with 25+hrs of racing on it and it hasnt letup on me one bit
I am lovin the comments and am hoping there will be lots more. Myself I went with the overly pricy Honda build; I want to hear more about peoples experience... keep it coming.
I have a 106 crf engine and a 160 in an x4, I prefer the 160 because it has more power and manual clutch and much better throttle response. If I were to ever replace the engine in my crf I would get a yx for it.

1st thing youv've ever said that was smart!lol
yer guys keep all the info coming lol, by the sounds of it the crf50 motor bomb out that will cost 5.000 is the way to go yeh?? , BUT!! the gpx are so cheap parts are cheap and im sure with proper maintnence it should stay in one pice yer so what crf50 motor estimate at $4.000 to $5.000 gpx 160 with v2 head bore kit what looking at max $1.000
You really cant build a Honda motor to compete with a modded GPX160, you may be able to get close to the same horspower out of a 50 base but your still not going to touch the torque of the gpx. If you want bling and dont mind spendin the money than the honda is a good motor. The GPX can be screamin fast, and reliable its all about doing the right mods.
yep u hit that nail on the head there i dont see why people ould go do a crf50 motor up and spend heaps when u can but a cheapie motor and cost way less and go faster and just as reliable

just as reliable..? Hmmm. GPX 160 has been around for how long compared to the honda motor... pretty hard to get a real comparison there don't you think? Still like to hear from more people that have experience with both.
people are saying the gpx160 is reliable, the motor has been around for about a year, lets that motor in 2 or 3 years. The 160 will be more or less a through away motor in time while you could run a crf50 motor for years and years and not have a problem. Just my thoughts
I love Honda and never had a problem with mine from stock to the R-Stage,had $1000 into that motor and it was more than enough, but i've also seen those whith the high priced superhead motors and blow em up too, same with the cheaper motors, gpx and so on that run great and others that blow sky high.I guess it's all about what you like best and how much your willing to spend.
